Use F5. Very powerful.
You can mute and unmute, and many many other things.

Where do you mute/unmute ?

You can't generate the RealTrack for just a set of bars in BIAB; you have to generate it for the entire track. However, if you want it to play from bar 13 to 20, just mute that track at bar 1 (the beginning), unmute it at bar 13 (and it will start playing there) and then mute it again at bar 21 (and it will stop playing).

Personally, if I were doing that, once I had it where I wanted it, I might would then generated the track and just convert it to the BIAB audio track (assuming you didn't need the audio track for something else) and free up the regular BIAB track for another instrument.

The Mute/Unmute options are found in those boxes under the heading "Volume Changes".

If you wanted to use the Soloist track to play the Realtrack in question, and you only wanted it to play for bars 13 to 21, what you'd do is...

1. load the RT onto the Soloist track; from what you've posted above, the Soloist track would be renamed to reflect the new instrument; it will still be the the button that's second up from the bottom of the column

2. right-click in the middle of the first bar, select "Bar Settings" and mute the 'Soloist' track (or whatever it's now called)

3. right-click in the middle of bar 13 and unmute (i.e. "Return to normal") the Soloist track

4. right-click in the middle of bar 21 and mute the Soloist track

5. re-generate the song for the changes to take effect

Noel

Donna, I'll chime in with something else. Since you have Biab you also have Real Band. It tends to get ignored by new people. Don't. It's very powerful, it's a full audio/midi sequencer and recorder with 48 tracks and it will do exactly what you want but easier. The reason is it's a DAW with Biab worked into it. It can use all the Biab styles and Real Tracks/Drums.

If you only want 12 bars of an RT all you do is highlight those 12 bars on the track and generate. With 48 tracks, imagine the possibilities...

There's way to much in RB to go into it here, just hop on over to the RB forum.

Also in the same dropdown menu in Bar Settings that you mute/unmute your track, don't overlook the other options. They can help your soloist transition starting and stopping much smoother.

For instance, if the instrument ends the solo too abruptly or continues playing into the bars past the bar you want it to end, you can use the Fade per Bar command in the bar that precedes the last bar the solo is supposed to end on so the playing fades away into the song. In your example, at bar 21, fade 16 and mute bar 22 if there are issues with the soloist ending roughly.

Another fun and useful technique to try is using multiple soloists on your track. Each channel of the mixer can have up to 10 instruments. Referring to Noel's picture of the Bar Settings page, just down from the top in the top third of the page is a button - RealTracks. At any bar, open Bar Settings page, select this button and follow the prompts to select a different instrument to replace the original instrument for that track. If you have a solo guitar, replace it with a sax. At another bar, repeat the process and replace the sax with a piano. If you do this to the max, you can have 70 instruments in your BIAB song.

You can also access this feature from the RealTracks picker by selecting the Medley button in the upper right corner.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
