hi.Im playing with RB really trying to get my brunette head round it to maybe use it as my DAW.But it does some odd things which of corse might be me. Brunette is 2018s blonde? ;-)
I opened up in RB a known andfrozen BB SGU from which I made a backing track ages ago.
Obs 1-it took AGES to load.Enough time to make a cup of tea. Why,when all tracks were frozen? And why so very very long?
Obs 2-when I played it was clearly a NEW version.None of my BB F5 instructions on mute/unmute for instance were there. All instruments played throughout.Bonus-some of the new drum fills seemed better.lol.
Obs 3-i thought of freezing THIS RB version but cant see an track icicle button, so lost it.
After this i went to BB and played the SGU.No issues at all.
Its going to be my 'hobby' for 2019 to try and get RB to do what I want.Mind you, after 15yrs wed I still havent managed it with my husband.Sigh.

you know what they call a blonde who dies her hair brunette?

artificial intelligence

RB does not follow every BiaB command it is simply a way to take BiaB tracks and do far more and add a lot of other tracks to them, really a mixing place.

To mute parts of tracks you need to use volume automation, like in any other DAW. its really easy and fast. Just click the little down arrow under the track number (in the tracks view) a lower view will open with a green line on that green line where you want to mute the track click and a small dot or node will appear, just slightly to the right of that node click and make another one. Next place the arrow on the second node and drag it to the bottom slide down the track to where you want the volume raise and do the exact same in reverse. Or use under right click and use volume change from the menu.

As far as freezing goes RB does not regenerate the tracks each time you play them, but only if you regenerate them by right clicking on the track and selecting whole track, then generate track under generate track there is an option to freeze from future generation

so does RB recognise frozen tracks in BIAB or not? I work in BIAB then go to RB for final editing.

Hi RobH-ooh!I'll get you at Play Time!! laugh When I was teenage I desparately wanted to be blonde so did a homemade peroxide job on it.I was Ginger for weeks and weeks shocked until it was long enough to cut real short and back to brown again.
Makes me wonder what the point is of doing all that arranging in BB just so RB can ignore it and me do even more work on something I have already got oven ready.
Bob Calver-jolly good question!

RB is not simply another version of Biab. You need to read the manual (as do I haha). If you open an sgu in RB the song will be regenerated. You need to use the Drop Station and drag your frozen tracks in.

Also read about the difference between Biab tracks and regular tracks. Biab tracks will regenerate, regular tracks won't unless you specifically right click on a track and click on Generate.

There is a lot to this program, it's difficult to just dive in and hope for the best.

hmmmm........reading the RB manual online it says............

This arrangement will play exactly as it did the last time it was generated in Band-in-a-Box, which is worth remembering if you have an arrangement that you particularly liked. To keep it unchanged, you could save all of your BB tracks as user tracks with the Track menu command Make all BB tracks regular tracks. Or save the song as a .SEQ (sequence) file in RealBand.

I open in RB then save as a seq file so the tracks that were frozen in BIAB should be preserved as they were

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
