Last song of 2018. Yes, it is White Wrapping, wrapping as in "skin."

https://soundcloud.com/david-snyder-gigs2/white-wrapping

I dedicate this song to my new spirit guru, Kanye West. By his dogged insistence on letting the crazy out, going on T.V. and even to the White House and saying things that make profound sense, sort of, or no sense at all, depending on how you decipher them, Kanye has liberated all of us in the eccentric, undecipherable class to just go ahead and say whatever we feel like saying and let the rest of the world try and figure it out. Thanks Kanye. Keep on keeping on man. The only scary prison is the prison of the mind. Set yourself free. Word.

White Wrapping

By David Snyder

V1

Look at the color
Of my skin
I can tell damned well I don’t fit
White wrappin’, white wrappin’
I’m especially bad ‘cause
I’m a man
Only got one place
It’s the garbage can
White wrappin’
White wrappin’
I won’t get invited to neighborhood
Cause I’m too damned white
And I’m no good
White wrappin’, White wrappin’
Like Martin Luther I had a dream
Of the promised land
Where every man’s a King
White wrappin’, white wrappin’

CH:

And I am not the enemy of
State, y’all
So please don’t blame me
For your rage and hate, aw naw
White wrappin’, white wrappin’

V2

Please don’t nail me
To the cross
Swear to God don’t want to be the Boss
White wrappin’, white wrappin’
For the love of God
Leave me alone
Just stand aside let me go home
White wrappin’, white wrappin’
Not Republican or Democrat
Everybody’s lyin’ had enough of that
white wrappin’, white wrappin’
What I hate the most is a hypocrite
Racists everywhere and I’m tired of it
White wrappin’, white wrappin’

CH:

And I am not the enemy of
State, y’all
So please don’t blame me
For your rage and hate, aw naw
White wrappin’, uh
What’s happenin’, mmmm

V3

Racist blacks, racist whites
Racist children in the dead of night
What happenin’, what’s happenin’
Racist women, racist men
Castin’ stones, full of sin
What’s happenin’, what’s happenin’
I’ll never see the Promised Land
Like Martin said, it’s out of hand
White wrappin’, white wrappin’
But I still have Martin’s dream
Every man a King, every woman a Queen
White wrappin’, what’s happenin’

CH:

And it is not too late
To change your fate, y’all
So please don’t blame me
For your rage and hate, naw
White Wrappin’
What’s happenin’

What’s happenin’
What’s happenin’

Aside from that... that's another cool toon David

Amazing.

Talk about influences!!! Holy Moly! Stevie Wonder? David Byrne? Tony Joe White? Tom Waits? That West guy (wouldn't know that one)?

All mixed together with a whole bunch of the Amazing David Snyder.

Extraordinarily Entertaining.

You know no bounds. Lucky us.

Mr. Snyder...

After listening to "White Wrappin', I realized suddenly that you, sir, are a musical rubberband, constantly stretching out the boundaries of content, genre, and performance style. In other words, I think you're a seriously creative, orginal musician! By the way, how did you get your voice to sound so gravelly???

Your RealTracks arrangement prompted memories of Steve Wonder's "Superstition", from his "Talking Book" album of of 1972. You got the funk in all the right places!

Concerning your lyrics, I'm sure Mr. West would love them because, first, they seem to lash out at conformity and, second, they're just ambiguous enough to generate controversy, which Mr. West thrives on, of course.

Not a bad way to enter a "New Year", posting something as barbed, in-your-face, and gutsy as "White Wrappin'"!

Thumbs up,

LOREN

Thanks Loren!

I got the gravelly sound by just being myself!!

smile

Thanks for all the compliments. I am glad it made you smile. If it's crazy enough for Kanye, it's krazy enough for me!

Happy New Year!

We're down with what floyd said: "Talk about influences!!! Holy Moly! Stevie Wonder? David Byrne? Tony Joe White? Tom Waits? That West guy (wouldn't know that one)? "

Yeah they are ALL there....Tom Waits goes funK smile

Too cool and if this is a sign of what's to come in 2019...hang on!!
