Here is the Question. How many of you trying to use the BIAB VSTi plugin have never used BIAB before? Choose a number: 1. I bought BIAB 2019 strictly for the VSTi and have never used BIAB and am having troubles 2. I bought BIAB 2019 and I am an experienced user and am having troubles with the VSTi.

Nope. I am learning banjo, bass guitar and 6 string guitar. I use both BIAB and RB for backing tracks.
Neither one complains about my timing issues and will play as slow as I like.

Just wondering what is the purpose of this survey Silvertones?
Are you suggesting that its only user error that is to blame with the VSti that may be mainly affecting new users only?

Not totally. I think some user error may be involved.Trying to sort that out a little. Here we go with the user error stuff again. while there may be some minor user errorthe bottom line is the VST does not work or should I say did not work. It is getting better but still buggy. I assure you, like I said an earlier post, if the veteransif this community continue to say user error on everything that has been pointed out you will run away all the new people who are very important to the growth of the community. The VST will be a major growth component for PG music. I believe they will have thousands of new users because of the strength of RealTracks.

I don't think there are (still) a lot of people who bought 2019 mainly for the VSTi and never used BIAB previously.
The VSTi is a great idea, with a lot of potential, but in my opinion still need some work. For example, the ability of playing in sync with the host, following tempo changes, key signature changes etc. These features are standard in any VSTi I know, and people used to use modern DAWS expect that (and also a more modern GUI, btw) from any contemporary virtual instrument.
I'm pretty sure these features will eventually be added, and then BIAB VSTi will attract a lot of people, because despite is limitations, BIAB is really an incredibly powerful tool for any music producer.
PS: I've had many problems with previous versions of the VSTi, but with the last update is working OK on my system (I'm a Reaper user)
Latest BIAB version, latest build.

I never accused but think what you want. I'll not reply to this thread. Just ignore it. Well, that's not healthy either. I was not trying to direct any criticism your way or accuse you. When the initial release came out, with many bugs, many longtime forum contributors immediately said user error on what seemed like every post that brought up an issue. I was not the only one to notice. Some of the veterans, such as yourself, are a wealth of knowledge so it's certainly not good for you not to respond. Just like it's not healthy for new members to not feel comfortable to ask questions because immediately the issue will be user error when it may not be !

It lets me do things that would be impossible musically otherwise. Cheers ian

I don't work with BB & RB in this manner.
So, it's not an issue for me.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

I would of upgraded anyway because BIAB has something for everyone and I love getting the new RT's. I have owned BIAB since I was working as a Atari ST tech back in the day. I was most surprised by the announcement of the VST and I actually like the idea. The plugin certainly did not work when it was released but it is now functioning with a few shortcomings. I am confident PGM will work this all out and it will get better as we go along. I have always generated multi riffs in RB and whole songs in BIAB. Most of my work is done in Studio One Pro.
As far as it is the User fault and not the plugin, I really would not agree with that. Sure there may be some instance of them not following along with the correct steps in the video's or some particular setting in their DAW. Just by all the updated patches and corrections tells you otherwise. That's my two cents!

Other than the hope of generating multi riffs I really cannot see myself making a great deal of use for the VSTi. Note: this is just my way of working. But, I do believe the only constant is change. I am an experienced user of BIAB. The vst was interesting to me not for the dragging of tracks, which can be done easier and faster through export and import, but for the sync to the chart. My expectations were high in that I was expecting full function in the VST. So far, it is a total mess. Seems like the development staff would have done far better with using REWIRE instead.

I don't know where this VST user error idea is coming from. I think a few are being too sensitive or something. At least 90% of reports concerning VST problems have been correct with few comments about user error.
As a long time user I could tell immediately the VST release was rushed and not ready for prime time and said so many times. I have not even looked at it yet and won't until I start reading about how awesome it is. I simply did not have the spare time over the holidays to dive into this particular pool.
The good news is progress is being made, it will get there. Meanwhile I'm really liking the new RT's and enhancements.

Long answer: I had (and still have) hopes for VST, but it was not a decision maker. I upgraded to get new RT's, but mainly for 64bit version, to show my support, as I see this as a huge step in the right direction. For me, VST is still very young and underdeveloped and I expected it to have issues I was reading a post from P.G. a few days ago. It seems he/they do have bigger plans for it. To be fully useful for me, it has to be: Stable, Respond to ALLbar changes, holds etc. from SGUs created in BIAB, intuitive and fast (has to be faster than now). I hope (and believe) we will get there. Hopefully within reasonable time. Short answer: No, I did not buy BIAB 2019 strictly for the VSTi

Yes I guess I did. I used to be a big RB guy but it seems the performance is not great at least for me. I do still see very strong capabilities in RB. But the work flow is not as smooth as my fav DAW.
So VSTi would be a great tool for using my main DAW

I have BIAB 2017 and upgraded to 2019 for the VST.
I do not believe it is correctly said "user error", because there is no clear instructions on how it should be setup (BIAB, Realband, PC sound settings and DAW settings). Only this forum has given this information trying to help users. Based on what I have tested and knowing that I have done a custom install of 2017 and the 2019 install matched that, I have uninstalled BIAB completely and will reinstall using the defaults. Then will try again with the VST. Will let you all know what happens.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
