I got an email from support saying the 611 build fixed these issues. It fixed a couple...the song picker will now load to the current song and any song will play when doubled clicked. However, you still can't select the first letter of the next song and have the list jump to the songs that begin with that letter.I have sent another email pointing this out.

Yes, yes, and yes. Also, support for a large number of songs is still not fixed. It is supposed to support up to 50,000 songs. My folder with 40,000 gets processed, but it only displays a subset (I can tell because it stops at the letter "L". You bump up against an arbitrary file size limit (at least that's what the error message seems to indicate).

Some sorts need at least twice the size of the records being sorted, for the sort to work. Think of a Move as a Copy followed by Delete. Granted, these are inefficient algorithms, but it might be what's happening here. It would seem the limit should just be increased and then we'll know.

They also still need to bring the ability back to start up BIAB in the last used directory instead of the Home folder. I, like many other BIAB users, have many home folders, not just one.

+1 to all of this. Can't believe that PG threw one of the best song features out with the trash. Can't sort by title, tempo, key, date, style...you have got to be kidding me! Don't understand the rationale for this at all.

Jeff: I would love to hear PG Musics rational on this decision. It obviously was discussed at some pre-planning meetings for the 2019 upgrade.

Was any of this picked up in beta testing? It seems so fundamental but no one noticed it; I just don't see that happening

No, No. The other, pre-release folk. Somehow this problem was not found, or PGM didn't fix it

I think - but have absolutely no proof - that there was much excitement from PG Music about introducing new features in the new Song Picker (preview of chords, setting the home folder etc) that other established functionality was overlooked.

A ridiculously short time-frame was all that was allotted for pre-release testing. Regardless, you can be assured that the song picker issues were found and reported.

But has there been any acknowledgement from PGM that this is a problem and that it will be fixed?

All I do know is the answer to the above is yes and yes. No mention of when though. I did think this would be sorted out by now.

Thanks VT

PGM often seem to hurry to bring new features to market at the expense of ensuring that they 1)really work, and 2) don't affect an existing feature. This is not the first time it has happened, and for sure it will not be the last.

They are not alone. There is an uproar over on the Kontakt site because Kontakt 6 eliminated the all important database. So if you want an oboe sound for example you have to remember where it was located. Many of us have a lot of Kontakt and third part patches so that database was important.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

To be fair, I have used Kontakt (and tons of other music software products) and have never seen an upgrade that had broken features anything like the BIAB VST.

A quote for quote's sake, and that's not some Japanese rice drink: this doggone VST seems more useful to me, if it works and i wouldn't have to set my Cooking Alarm for 10 minutes each and every time i throw it in the ring, than the VideoTracking business from last year ever was. So let PG face it's own music; who knows they'll come up with a great tool after all ... but i'm fed up testing it, i'll wait 'till there's a green light ... And we need more fixes than only the VST BTW.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
