It's been too long since I've had any time to post anything here! Been way to busy with work. I am hoping to see some changes in that area of my life. I sure miss being around here!

I was toying around with some 7/4 rhythms in my head, and came up with the idea for this song. All the tracks are RealTracks/RealDrums, along with some organ I played.

Solid Ground

To accomplish the 7/4 meter, I had to alternate 3/4 and 4/4 in BB. Took a little work, but I think it turned out alright. I hope you enjoy this one.

I hope to be around a lot more this year!

This turned out more than all right! I am amazed at how good the 7/4 timing works.( I mainly think in 4/4. :)) This is an very inspirational hymn--one I could see added to many hymnals. What a treat to listen to before I head off to worship service today!

Really nice work on this, Steve smile That hook is insanely catchy, and I love the progressions too. 7/4 is a time signature you don't see too often and you nailed it here. I barely noticed it wasn't 4/4 although it was obvious when I payed more attention.

Not a thing I'd change - thanks for sharing!

You have once again presented something that is in the upper echelon of music posted here! Oh and btw, this is a great song! Thanks, Torrey

What a terrific song! It gets the message across without being preachy. Your vocal is particularly good on this - truly excellent! Everything abiut this is top shelf. You outdid yourself on this one ... It's great effort on your part. Wishing you the very best ...

Whoa...I bet it did take a "little" work and it paid off big time with a superbly cool groove.

This is high bar material...the write, the vocals and, wow, that band. Sounds like y'all have been out gigging for a long time...so cohesive.

This is one that will seriously stick with you with its fine vocals, catchy groove, memorable hook and upbeat lyric.

A most enjoyable listen!

Hi Steve,

Brilliant!

There's something very infectious about this track. The rhythm rolls along so easily,
surprisingly when you consider the multiple time signatures. It just begs to be played
again and again.

Love the vocals. I've always admired your singing and this is some of your best.
Everything works as it should in a faultless mix.
Might be tricky to dance to!

ROG.

All the hallmarks of a Steve Young song...

Wonderful arrangement. Excellent production. Outstanding Vocals and Harmonies. Solid writing. Beautiful mix.

The opening and the drop are both really nice. The banjo is a nice addition.

Well done all around - as always. An excellent listen.

(looking forward to you being around more often!!)

Steve,

This is absolutely stunning!

I love that opening and it leads the ears into a really, really fine composition. The lyrics are superb and you've set them to a really catchy melody. Your vocals and harmonies are first class.

The backing you've created amazed me. I didn't realise it was 7/4 until I read your post (I always try to listen first without reading comments because I like to compare my thoughts to comments after the listen). This is such a terrific time signature and you've used it with flair. It's great to know that Realtracks worked so comfortably with something out of the ordinary.

Everything about this shines with polish and glistens with professionalism. Without doubt, you continue to inspire!

It was definitely worth taking the time to set up these bars of alternating 4/4 and 3/4.

All the best,
Noel

Steve,

The whole atmosphere is like a gospel.
7/4 is a time signature that is pretty complicated, but your song does not make us feel like that.
It is very natural.
Your singing is wonderful as usual.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

First of all, please forgive me for "disappearing" on y'all! I took early, semi-retirement the end of January. My wife insisted that I disappear from the face of the planet for a few weeks, and try to get de-stressed. After working almost 7 years of 60 hour weeks, in addition to pastoring a church, she knew I needed the time off. She was right (as always). I am now back involved in civilization, and much more relaxed and happy.

Thanks to all of you for posting such kind words about this song. I won't take over everyone else's threads to thank each one individually. Just know that all of you are important to me, and very much appreciated!

Now, I will get to listening to some of what I have been missing the past couple of months!

Yes, as others have said, this has all the hallmarks of a Steve Young write--hooky as all get out, masterful build and arrangement. A real foot stomper, inspiring lyrics, great vocals.

But I think I can tell where you are getting all of these tricks:

Playin' in a P&W band will make you learn some arrangement chops, won't it Steve? smile Happy Sunday morning y'all--time to kick out the jams!

Glad to see you came back!

Thanks, David! Yes, leading a Worship band will bring out some chops, indeed. Several live presentations a week in the same location, with a constant need to have fresh material will bring that out in you.

Glad you like this one!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
