Hello. I have BIAB on screen, my song arranged, but can't seem to save it as mp3 or wav. I've tried Save, Save As, the wav. button, but all I get is a message saying access violation, and my screen freezes. I have it saved as SGU.

Help? Thanks.

Paddy,

What version of BIAB are you using? (For example is BIAB 2018, 2016, etc.)

Does the problem persist if you close BIAB and restart it by right-clicking on the startup shortcut and selecting "Run as administrator"? (Windows will ask for permission to run BIAB when you use this option... just click on Yes/Ok.)

Regards,
Noel

Thanks Noel. I'm using BIAB 2015. I got the Everything Pak, it came on it's own usb drive, and because of it's size, I didn't install it on my PC, I just plug it in to use, so I don't have a shortcut on my screen. Perhaps BIAB thinks that it's files are on my c drive and so cannot save, that may be the "access violation". Maybe I should go and install it, but I wonder if other users use BIAB from it's own drive.

If you haven't, you should have at least done the basic install to ensure that fonts, effects, softsynths, etc, get installed (because they need to go into the Windows Registry). When you run the install program, you get the option of running everything from the hard drive, so you select that, and then it will do just a basic install to the C: drive (won't take a lot of space).

Then, create a shortcut to BBW.exe and set the shortcut to "run as administrator" (right click , select properties, then on the "Compatibility" tab check the "run as administrator" box).

Also, go to the updates page and make sure you have installed the latest 2015 updates. Also, I notice there was a Coyote Wavetable DXi update around the same time. Also, a RealTracks update and a RealBand update.

See if that helps it to work.

Paddy,

In addition to John Ford's thoughts, if I recall correctly, BIAB 2015 did not come with mp3 codecs because mp3 was then still under patent restrictions.

While it's possible to load the conversion codecs by using software such as K-Lite, I used to prefer using a "WAV to MP3" converter in those days. There are heaps of freeware ones available on the internet. My choice was FREE AUDIO CONVERTER (link to website).

If mp3 is not specifically required and all you're looking to do is to compress the audio to a smaller sized file, BIAB will save in Windows compressed format (wma). Personally, I prefer wma over mp3 (and so does PG Music since all the Realtracks are wma files and not mp3 files).

Regards,
Noel

Even with K-Lite codec pack installed no Mp3? WMA is also a good choice, but f.i. SoundCloud prefers Mp3 i think. F

SoundCloud’s preferred files are lossless. WAV, FLAC et al. See https://help.soundcloud.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003452847-Uploading-requirements

I would have thought you’d need to export the WAV file using Export Song as Audio by clicking on the .wav icon.

If that doesn’t work why not try pulling the .sgu into RealBand and exporting it as a .wav from there.

I use different software to convert .wav to MP3 but you could use Audacity for that task these days (just make sure you install Lame).

My thoughts

Tony

Paddy,

One other thing that I should have mentioned but it slipped my mind, is that if you cannot export a WAV file, that most likely means that you do not have a soft synth installed.

Have a look at the link below and follow the numbers to set the MIDI driver. (This also sets Coyote WT soft synth.)

One of the quirks of BIAB is that it's not possible to export audio unless a VSTi/DXi is set (i.e. a soft synth).

Hello everyone, thanks for taking the time to help me. We all know how frustrating it is when our head is full of ideas bursting to get out, only to be blocked by something that we can't get to work. Anyway, I looked at all your suggestions, and tried lots of stuff. I changed to run as Administrator, and installed Coyote. Now, I'm happy to say, I can export as wav to my desktop. I have Switch so no problem changing wav to mp3. Maybe I can also export from BIAB as mp3, but that's for another day.
So, thanks again, be assured your help was much appreciated.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
