Right On Scott!!! This is my 3rd FAWM and also hopefully 50/90. These song writing challenges are a boat load of fun. Also meet some really nice people kind of like this site. A lot of people are up for collabs so a chance to put lyrics to music or vise versa. A great way to keep the pencil sharp.

I have just signed up, but it is very confusing. Yes, there is a forum, but the people who write there all seem to know what this is about. And I don't!
There is no FAQ about FAWN so how am I - as a newcomer - supposed to know what to do when February comes? Where and how do I post songs?

Very bad web-design in my opinion, good for you who already know FAWN, but I feel lost.

Will,

I agree with you that the website could be improved. The 'help' page gives the best description of what it is:

https://fawm.org/help/

The website is run by volunteers, and as such, it's not refined very much year after year.

As for posting songs, this is not obvious on the site, because it's not part of the site until February 1.

The easiest place to post songs, in my opinion, is on SoundCloud.com

I'm glad you joined!

Basically you will be doing the same thing you do here...
1. Write your song.
2. Record your song.
3. Upload your song to SoundCloud.
4. Post the link on your FAWM page.
5. Take a break... Listen & comment on the songs of others.
6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 thirteen more times.

They call it FAWM (February Album Writing Month) but,
since I have other responsibilities, I've come to call it NoSleepFebruary Album Writing Month. smile

If I left anything out, perhaps Scott, Joanne, or Belladonna will add it.

Some other thoughts...
They provide you with a musical prompt (creative idea) every week, but you don't have to use it.
They have collaborations & "skirmishes" if you wish to participate.
A "skirmish" is basically another name for a prompt designed to get the musical juices flowing.
You don't have to create 14 songs... that's just the idea of the challenge... can you so it?
You don't have to create songs that are ready for release... just rough musical ideas.
You probably should be ready to relax, loosen up, & have fun...
Be ready to meet a lot of nice people from all over the world that have the same passion for songwriting you do.

The collabs can be fun and helpful if you are more of a music or lyrics person you can pair up with your opposite.

This year is my 4th FAWM. I love February. It's always such a magical time for creating music. The FAWM community is the best.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
