A quickly-thrown-together-sorta-love-song.
So, call it a Valentine's Day thing...

smile

I'D DO IT ALL AGAIN

love isn't always easy
we've made some mistakes
the wrong word at the wrong time
and something breaks
sometimes you point a finger
sometimes i lay the blame
trying to get the upper hand
in a stupid kind of game

but we found a way
to get through it all
came out the other side
our hearts standing tall

   i'd do it all again
   exactly how we did it
   wouldn't change a thing
   wouldn't miss a minute
every misstep every wrong turn from
   beginning to end
all part of a perfect plan
   i'd do it all again

try hard as we might
there've been a few misses
but if we're keeping score
there've been a whole lot more kisses
we've found what we were after
it as good as it can be
days of love and laughter
nights of you and me

i'm in this forever
no matter how things go
i love you from deep within
my heart and my soul

Floyd,

Your "thrown together" song sounds like a Top 10 hit... LOL!

You have an immense talent for melody and groove. I love the arrangement and overall flow of the song. Big sounding mix as well.

Great, great vocal - love the way your voice soars on this. Cool ending too.

Awesome as usual!

"quickly-thrown-together", man, are you kidding me?!

I knew I was going to like this before I pressed play just looking at the waveform over on soundcloud, easy to tell there was going to be some good dynamics happening.

Great arrangement and mix! Love the breakdown at 2:55 after the guitar solo, very effective.

Outstanding as usual, Floyd!

You're getting soft in your old age...

Of course I'm kidding, this is so good,

this is good enough to have been a debut on the Grammy Awards Show

(which neither me or probably anyone here watched)

I love the emotional lift into the chorus

All of your tools and craft are working very well here, inspirational!

Wow!

And...my quickly thrown together take.

First off, WOW!

Moving on, there is SO much I could say again; I'll be brief. I SO appreciate this song! You are the master of the story telling song; but this my friend, goes a new direction. It has the appeal to anyone that would listen to it. It could be anyone's story! Just awesome.

Really NIT picking : There's a weird little volume drop at 43 seconds.

Short notes :

Love, love, love the groove.
The drums come in PERFECTLY
Nice effect of the break before chorus
Love the emphasis on "all"
1:51 tasty drums! You placed that really well!
"heart and soul" really great that the music hits for emphasis
Nice, big, open chorus! As in, REALLY nice!
Guitar solo is on point...and love how it goes into the breakdown.
Oh how I love the pad in the breakdown. Ads a ton of atmosphere!
Love the guitar at For the outro.

Totally pro sounding. Man, what a cool song! Which begs the question, who are you selling this to? smile

A quickly thrown together song writing lesson, fantastic production, great dynamics, vocal and mix.
Were the drums the loops? - they sounded liked they were played just for the song.
Brilliant stuff.

This production sounds so clean and crisp. This is one of those songs I could listen to over and over and not get tired of. Not only is your vocal technically good, it has that intangible quality that connects the listener's ear to his/her heart. Thank you for throwing together such a wonderful song and sharing it with us.

Hi Floyd,

I have to try this "A quickly-thrown-together-sorta-love-song."-technique, because if that is how you make these "hit"-songs, it must be the way to go...

This song is outstanding good, both in a lyrical and musical sense. What I admire about the songs you make is that you are always really good at making the most perfectly fitting back track to whatever you want to sing about. It is wonderful gift to have!

Really enjoyed this song!

It's a very cool song - well sung and performed.
What I noticed most was how the drumming supported the singing - I dopn't know if you had the drums 1st or the melody but it reminded me of the way Keith Moon played along with Entwhistle but listened to the vocals & played to them.

Cheers

Hi Floyd,
Respect to you for this one !

Song
Well structured
Coherent lyric
Strong melodies in all sections
Mix / Production
Everything’s nice and clear
Bass could perhaps be more prominent
Instrumentation
Exceptional acoustic gtr

Vocals
Consistent lead
Harmonies are well chosen and used judiciously
What I really liked
Overall ‘new country’ feel
Good pre-chorus (We’ve found a way….)
The space in the mix
What you might like to return to
The drum roll at 1 51 is perhaps a bit exaggerated !
The section from 2 45 to 2 55 – I’d just dispense with it
Very occasionally the backing and lead vox are out of sync
Overall impression
A thoroughly accomplished production

Take care,

Marc

For a "quickly-thrown-together-sorta-love-song", this one sounds very well-crafted...
Nicely written lyrics going straight to the hook "I'd do it all again exactly how we did it".. . Great line!

I always look forward to hearing your creations.

Great job with the lyrics, as usual. As McCartney observed, people can't seem to get enough of "silly love songs" - and why should we, when you both do such a nice job? laugh

The rhythm of the instruments and vocals had a cool, laid-back groove that fit the emotional feel of the song. I loved, loved, loved the build on the song. Everything fit together wonderfully, and flowed from one part to the next.

Top-notch singing as well.

Strong lyrics full of love and sincerity. Catchy chorus. Great production, I like the break before the chorus and the calming down after the chorus. Nice solo and perfect ending.

Sounds like you spent weeks on it Floyd! Exceptionally great harmonies in here and very well handled breaks and transitions in the song! Also great work with the pushes and instrument selection such as the strings in the background and those distorted single notes in the chorus on guitar really give it a very full sound! Great tune Floyd! Thanks, Torrey

Happened to quickly drop by the forum. Saw a new FJ tune (one of my favorite songwriters.....ever....anywhere) and had to stop for a listen and..........WOWOWOWOWOWOW do I love this!!!!! All experienced songwriters know how hard it is to write an emotionally upbeat song that doesn't sound trite or sappy. Well, THIS is how you do it!! FANTASTIC musically and lyrically, and the instrumental groove is PERFECT! The lyrics are sweet, but deep...the kind that bring a little tear to your eye when you hear a Diane Warren song at the end of a touching movie. With you Floyd, it is always hard to say your absolute best song, but it is for sure in my fave 5 or yours, and, at the moment, my favorite. BEAUTIFUL!!!! Take a bow!!! Take care. Greg

Dang, I've spent all morning trying to throw together a song...how long does this throw together thing take?

Valentines Day makes it even more special but it stands by itself as a great love song.

It says it all w/o a hint of sappiness. That's a sweet spot -- literally and figuratively.

The pre-chorus' do everything that I've learned a pre-chorus should do...caused me to study the whole concept.

A wonderful floyd vocal, band, and mix ices the Valentine cake...oops smile

Wonderful!

C - thanks for this great review! (thrown together as it was smile )

I went back and checked that volume drop (I heard it once you mentioned it). It was only the vocal that dropped - which was me, of course, unintentionally. I muted the vocal and the other tracks maintain their volume. Something about that vocal drop made it have the illusion of everything dropping a little...

Selling it? HA! like THAT is possible these days!!! Got a couple of bucks - we can make a deal...

Nice work. I've been working pretty hard the last week or so....and haven't had the chance to get in and listen like I'd like to..... but... hey, I can now afford to keep my lights turned on for another month... this is a good song. Well done on all aspects.

Gotta love those "thrown together" things that turn out nicely, and this is one of those times.

Marc - thanks for the detailed comments. I could see leaving the drums simpler @ 1:51. I think the section @ 2:45-2:55 is a good way to give the drop that follows more impact. Glad you stopped by...

Hi floyd,

In my headphones right now, it sounds like this song is coming directly from a radio station. You've managed to produce an outstanding and compelling sound. It's polished, it's classy, it's warm and it sits so very comfortably on my ears. Not only are you an excellent songwriter, first class arranger and top notch singer but you've also become a very highly skilled audio engineer.

Your attention to musical sweetening is something that I truly admire. The way that you keep the listener's attention focused throughout with tasteful instrumental surprises is a wonderful arranging skill.

I really, really enjoyed this!

All the best,
Noel

Top-notch singing as well.

Thanks, David. Now I've got "Silly Love Songs" stuck in my head (in a few days, that will change to "When I'm 64")

Take care. Greg

Wonderful!

Pre-chorus? What's a pre-chorus??? HA! smile The sweet spot - HA! again... now, there might be just a little sappiness... smile

Gotta love those "thrown together" things that turn out nicely, and this is one of those times.

Thanks, Herb.

All the best,
Noel

Brilliant song Floyd, I could have sworn this was one of the last songs I commented on.

When I see one of your songs posted, well I kind of know it will be to a certain standard...The FLOYD STANDARD.

Enjoyed my listen.

floyd,

Really nice song and arrangement.
The pedal point of the dominant note (sustained sound of E) is very effective.
I am also a big fan of pedal point.
Your vocal is wonderful as usual.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Hi floyd,

I was just drifting around Soundcloud and letting autoplay take me where it wants when "I'd Do It All Again" started playing. I just wanted to let you know (again) that this really is a super song. It's radio-ready, radio friendly and a terrific listen.

With this sort of ability, you should be famous!

All the best,
Noel

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
