Hi Fellows and Gals.

Got this workflow issue, was hoping somebody could help me with.
Loaded midi song in BIAB to see what RT/RDs will play with it well.
"chord extraction" was not very precise, so I re-typed all of it.

Now, having all the chords laid out and bar changes, I noticed that I need to add some bars and make changes to the midi outside BIAB... I use a separate program for making midi arrangements. Is it possible to delete and replace the midi file that was originally opened in BIAB without touching the chord grid or bar changes that are already in place?

This is not a one time deal for me, so looking for a proper way to do this as a part of a workflow.

I thank you in advance!

Misha.

Was a bit impatient with it, so called tech support.
It was super simple, you (I) just have to:
1) select all bars (including bar changes, etc) copy
2) open new midi file
3)paste

I do not know how I overlooked that, it was right under my nose smile It would be a nice option to be able to save just chord grid, with all bar changes, parts etc, but without the style or midi. Heading to "request" section.

Misha,

That is a simple, elegant solution. I hope you will take time to post PG Music's answer in the Tips and Tricks forum section.

You're right. The answer is there once you know the answer but it is not immediately obvious while searching menu selections.

Jim, kind of elegant... there is no option to save that "elegance" (posted request at wishing well)
BIAB allows to do this only when both Target->Source are active.

P.S. It was right under my nose, but even speaking with tech support took well over 20 minutes to figure it out smile I will write it up to tips&tricks within next few days.

Hi Misha,

You can also use File - Import - Import MGU File, and uncheck everything except Chords.

Thanks

Kent,
pipeline suggested that smile When you do it this way, you loose bar changes and other good stuff.

But...when you have an active project, with bar changes, etc., and do this:
1)Copy all bars
2)Open new midi file
3)paste

You do not loose these bar changes... And I am not really sure if it is a bug or a feature request.

How is this important? To me it is like this:
When I work with midi file in BIAB that was not created in BIAB... If in the middle of the project I need to edit that original midi file outside BIAB, there is no mechanism to preserve all the things that were done in BIAB (chord changes, bar changes, part makers etc.) and just replace initial midi "A" file with edited "B" file.

Thankfully, copy->paste works, but it would make sense to have check box in "MGU" import that would allow to import bar changes and other items with chords.

P.S. Almost ready for Tips&Trips smile

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
