Was trying it just for fun - my needs are modest - and when i had added amplitube as a plug in I was told I had some days use but needed to register/activate etc and then I was offered an updated version at which time I hit cancel.

Can I use the old version (which is what PG Music has licensed I presume) without further ado?

Maybe the plug in appears automatically in BIAB as the parent program but I haven't tried it

and I was surprised that amplitube had to be added manually to the vst fx - still I managed to do that! haven't checked whether BIAB and PT have it already installed as default

You're in the Realband Forum and referencing BiaB and PT, so not sure which you mean, but ..
Amplitube 3 shows in my VST drop down here. It does appear to be a VST though, not a system installed DXi.

Thanks rharv. The issue occurred when I was trying out amplitube in RB hence this forum. I had to install it as a new vsti. The reference to BIAB and PT was based on my experience of sforzando which gets installed automatically in BIAB but I had to install manually to use high q patches in RB. As the flagship program BIAB works straight out of the box with all the extras ready to go. RB obviously doesn't.

However, sforzando worked fine once installed. When I launched amplitube in RB I was asked to register/activate - can't remember which and was told I had a few days to use the program before that was necessary. When I went through the process (assuming that my purchase through PG music as part of the 2019 bundle and probably through the 2018 purchase last year was legitimate) I thought I might get a 'registered through pg music' popup or similar. Instead I got an offer to buy a newer version so I stopped the process without registering etc.

Hence my questions

1) will amplitude stop working and then require registration?

2) if i need to register what is the process as I believe i am entitled to use the program without further payment

3) can i just ignore the popup that happened on my first use (assuming it won't popup again) and just keep using the plugin?

thanks rharv - i eventually found some advice from Andrew that an authorization code for amplitube 3 could be obtained from PG Music sales.

amplitube custom shop is the latest version but its 64 bit and although i've managed to register that the code didn't work for amplitube 3 - and that's all i need - amplitube 3.11.2 is installed already but needs that d**n code!

A song, dance and first born. IK Multimedia products have a tough registration format.

Where was the key to Amplitube 4 found? Just curious whether I missed an upgrade along the way; in RB mine still says Amplitube 3.
I've always had the full versions so I must have missed it if 4 came with BiaB at some point in time.

no it didn't come with BIAB at all - I went on to the IK multimedia site and wondered what would happen if I installed amplitube 4 for free from their site. I had to register and got a key to amplitube and some other useful looking plugins. so i downloaded amplitube 4 and went ahead.

this was totally independent of BIAB and PG Music. As far as I can tell version 4 is almost identical to version 3 in terms of what comes for free but 4 has a lot more 'add-ons' you can buy from their custom shop that show up in the presets - version 3 says it can't open the preset browser but that might be because its unauthorised at the moment.

so for free - and easily installed and accessed via jbridge - I seem to have all the functionality I need. I get all the stomp boxes, some amp models and cabinet choices but i have not done a head to head comparison

It has always been easier to get AMPLITUBE from IK Multimedia. It's free and the registration goes easier.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
