Hello and thanks in advance for any help. 1) I created a chord progression, picked a midi style (vince2beat) saved, played and saved, quit, open BIB my song now has "crossover" as style NOT "vince2beat"...nothing I do, create a new file, copy paste, save, save as, EVERY time I open the song that SHOULD have "vince2beat" as style, opens as "crossover-style", 2, i will edit chords, save, press play, file "saves", then it plays with the original chords I just changed...WTF?....3) Space bar will sporadicly QUIT functioning as a "start-stop" control, I have to REOPEN preferences, CHANGE the preferences, save, THEN RE-change the space bar command to start/stop in order for it to work again....BIB is a good fun program, but these glitches are inexcusable.

When something strange like that happens to me I start a new song project and copy the chords from old project to new project.

If the program continues to act up as soon as you create a new song project then the settings are likely corrupted and need to be reset.

The third (3rd) selection in the "Options" menu is "Return to Factory Settings ...". When that is selected another window opens (see the top screen shot below). I would remove the check mark and select the second choice, "Return ALL to Factory Settings". You will have to reprogram all your settings again. You can do that by pressing Ctrl + E to open the "Preferences ..." window and selecting all the button options. See the second screen shot below.

When I was first learning the program I had to reset the settings many times. I was REALLY good at messing up the program settings. Over time and with increased experience using the program I don't mess the settings up nearly as often.

One way to reduce the pain of resetting the settings is to create a Preferences file. You can do that by selecting "Options" then "Save Preferences As ..." Then when you need to reset you can use "Options" and "Open Preference File ..." to quickly load your settings.

My last suggestion is to save your song project file often using the "save As" command. Each time you save rename the file using the same name and an incremental number. For example the song file "Corrupt.SGU" will get saved as "Corrupt01.SGU", Corrupt02.SGU" and so on. That way you can retrace your steps and lose less work. This is a good habit to develop with all programs where you're entering a bunch of commands or data.

Hi DGme,

If you click the RealTracks button on the Band-in-a-Box toolbar, is "Auto-replace MIDI styles with RealTracks styles when songs loaded" checked? If so, that would explain why the style keeps changing, and unchecking that item should solve the problem.

Thank you
Kent

Thanks for jumping in Kent. I overlooked that setting so I hope the answer is that easy.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
