Hi Folks. As a child I loved folk tales of people from far North. They have very unique flavor. Here is my tribute attempt to write a semi-folk song. I wrote it in Russian, I think I will butcher it, if I do English version Thank you for listening! Sever / North
BIAB: 2543: Pedal Steel 2650: Guitar 1758: Banjo Initial arrangement made in vArranger, Various synths and instruments of Halion. Lyrics translation: Early morning snow is glowing Playful chill is tickling bones Sun is burning his eyelashes gleaming steel of sharp harpoon Dance blizzard, dance Ring loud sacred bells Let the hunt bring seals Let the fish find the net Scarlet blood like artist paint spilled on virgin lump of ice Master looked upon the clouds, and shut down tired eyes Dance blizzard, dance to the drum of shaman Please forgive me mighty bear for my deceit. Raven pecking stars above, hiding sun beneath black wings he is teaching us to live, to accept the death with smile. Dance blizzard dance Ring loud sacred bells Sleep river Sleep until the spring.

Very cool song. Loved the backtrack. Vocal was excellent. Also loved the way you did the harmonies.

Misha, no need for a translation - the sound, accent & exotica transported me. I though of steppes, snow, tall pines and an axe. LOved it.

Enchanting exotic work... It also makes me embarrassed I am not a polyglot of the world...
"There's an old joke that someone who speaks four languages is quadrilingual, a speaker of three languages is trilingual, someone with two languages is bilingual, and someone who knows only one language is an American, or British."
Forgive me for being a monolingual American but... I did enjoy listening to your song!

Hi Misha,
I enjoy hearing songs sung in a language I don't understand, makes me think of the vocal as one of the instruments without being distracted by lyrics. And it sounds very good indeed.
Loved the intro, and choice of instruments. What did you use for the drum track, is that Halion?

As I've said before, I always love your lyrics. They are fully of startling and vivid imagery. The music evokes of paradoxical mood of joy and melancholy. Nicely done!

Ray, the Axe is very important Thank you for listening and colorful comments! ---------------------------------------------------------- Mike, Thank you! I want to get a friend involved who plays mouth harp pretty well, to add to this tune. Could be an interesting addition. ---------------------------------------------------------- Jim, Thank you for kind words! Sorry, did not mean to embarrass anyone, tune was written in part using BIAB, so I posted here I love listening to Bossa or similar music in Portuguese. Can't understand a word, but still enjoy it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dave, Thanks! I wanted to try to translate this and try and sing it in native Chukchi, but then most likely no one, even me would understand what it s about, plus language is too tricky Yes, drums are of Halion. I actually like it far more than Kontakt for simplicity and ease of tweaking things, plus it has GM mode. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ezekiel's Storm, Thank you for listening and nice feedback!

It is so cool how "worldly" this forum is.
It is always nice to hear folks do things in their native language (and I liked Jim's joke! So true).
Nicely done, Misha. Your posts are ALWAYS interesting...

At the very, very beginning I thought this was going to be an 80s inspired song, but then it shifted entirely and it sounded like a folk song. Then I read your description and realized - aha! It is a folk song. You're right that there it does definitely have a really interesting flare to it. I quite enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Ember

Misha, +1 to the good stuff that's been said already. I always enjoy hearing you sing and I especially liked the percussion and the instruments you used to give this such an interesting beat.

Dave really nailed the way we feel about the song...irrespective of the actual lyric the wonderful vocals take one on a journey. And the perfect backing tracks (all of them!) and a fine mix enhance that journey. Really well done! J&B PS Love what Jim said about languages

Excellent mix of different styles, old and modern. Very interesting rhythmical elements, banjo fits very well. Nice vocals with harmony and clever drumming with mouth. Great atmospheric mix. The chord progression is intriguing.

FJ Thank you for tuning in and your feedback! ---------------------------- Torrey, Thank you for kind words! --------------------------- Ember, Thank you! You are actually very close. I thought of doing 80s style pop initially, but then decided to do the tune I did and stuff just fit the right way ----------------------------- Josie, Thank you for listening and nice comments! ----------------------------- J&B, thank you for your feedback! You are too generous on my mixing skills ----------------------------- Deryk, Thank you! I tried to stay within scope of meanings of traditional Chukchi, Koryak...folk songs... Hope they do not put curse on me ----------------------------- Janne, Thank you for listening and interesting comments! Indeed (good catch), that was one of goals of combining more vintage and modern style and sound items ----------------------------- Mr. Snyder-Tolstoy, Thank you for feedback here and on SC!

Hi Misha,
I might be biased because of the time I worked (and partied) in Russia, but I just love, love this kind of music. It is an uplifting style of music even if the topics that the songs are about can be a bit sad at times. It was a fun experience to listen to this: Like Ember I thought it would be 80s synth pop in the beginning, but boy... you changed that feeling quickly.
I really, really enjoyed listening to this, Misha.. it reminded me of some of the best days I've had in my life.
So... thank you so much for sharing this beautiful song with the community here!
Will

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
