Lonesome Tonight

I wrote this song 15 years ago, now I revisited it by re-arranging and singing the vocals. Basically a reggae song, but, because BIAB is such an inspirational tool, I have added elements from other genres as well, hopefully it doesn't sound a mess smile I would call this a humoristic break-up song, because of the name-dropping - references to song titles of certain artists, flowers and places in Europe.

MIDI Instruments: Rock Organ (style: MARLEY.STY - SampleTank 3)
RealDrums: Reggae
RealTracks:
536:Bass, Acoustic, Pop Sw 120
1142:Ukulele, Strumming FolkSwing Sw 110
1141:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm CountrySwingCleanPicked Sw 110
943:Piano, Acoustic, Solo-Accompaniment JazzStrideBallad Sw 085
1207:Fiddle, Soloist GypsyJazzBallad Sw 110
2672:Pedal Steel, Rhythm HawaiianSwing Sw 110

Vocals: by me

Mixed in Cakewalk by BandLab.

Lyrics:

One more song for me
so drunk I wanna be
give me one more bottle
of heartbreak hotel
mama it's not alright
I'm lonesome tonight.

In the year when Bob Marley died,
I gave roses to my woman, she cried,
Later that summer in Nice,
she fell in love with
a muscular guy from Greece.

One more song...

Now or never I stay
with a picture of her in Marseille,
she'll be always on my mind
but Paris is fading
the orchids need to be shined.

One more song...

Could I be loved I ask,
is it such a difficult task?
I will be waiting in vain
for her to come back
to the sunflower fields in Spain.

One more song...

One more song…

You actually pulled it off pretty well...
And the tag caught me by surprise & made me smile...
A very spontaneous sounding composition...
I guess that's why I enjoy hearing the creativity of others.

This made me genuinely smile! Superb concept, superbly executed! Bravo, bravo, BRAVO!!!

(along with your vocals, that Gypsy Violin solo style is quite superb! and what a cool ending, too ;-) )

Jannesan,

It works for me—I really like the harmonies you have going on in the chorus—it’s catchy. The introduction of more gypsy jazz type instruments give it a unique sound; and I think that’s a good thing. Enjoyed my listen—thanks for sharing.

Deej

Wow - this is a really interesting and engaging tune! The different kind of harmony layering gives it a really unique feel, which I liked. You mashed up some genres on opposite ends of the spectrum and it came out not sounding forced - really well done!

Thanks for sharing smile

Janne,

A clever write. Some lines made me laugh out loud.

A super catchy melody - especially on the chorus - had the flavor of songs we used to listen to on AM Hits radio. Nice.

The musical combinations work well.

Enjoyed it.

"One more song for me

Well after that first verse you know it's going to be fun!

"mama it's not alright" Hahahahaha!

And what a great choice of seemingly disparate RTs...but they worked together excellently.

And nice harmonies also.

Fun!!!

J&B

Thanks Jim for your kind comment smile BIAB is a great source for creativity, I had a two bar hold ending followed by the normal BIAB ending and I cut the normal ending, but the piano track didn't have a clean cut point, luckily the piano ending was so interesting I decided to left it there - I'm glad it made you smile laugh

Hey there Jannesan, nice job on this! Excellent mixdown on all of this and very soothing to hear. The reggae vibes come across exceptionally well, and the vocals harmonize well with the other instruments. Thanks for sharing!

Cheers,
Joe

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
