Messin' Around - Soundcloud So after writing slow slightly poetic songs for a while I decided to get back to what I'm most interested in, playing live and in your face and so I wrote this rockin' tune really with the band in mind. But then I got real lazy and it's all completely BiaB apart from my vocal. I figure when there's great guitar parts already, there's no need to for me to put new strings on mine and play along.... haha. Messin' Around ©2019 Mr Jones? Well it's Friday night, I just got paid, I'm going out on the razz Find me a club with a rockin' beat because I aint got time for jazz Well I'll be, Messin' around now I'll be, paintin' the town now I'll be, playin' the clown now I'll be, gone, when I'm done The cats were swinging and the crowd was singing and the whole place went insane When a guy on a '58 6120 started playing that Mystery Train They're the, talk of the town now They'll be, stealin' the crown now Never, turnin' it down now Play it loud, play it proud Lead solo The slap bass was pumpin' and the whole joint's jumpin', so I thought I'd take a chance Bein' real slick, I grabbed me a chick and I asked her for a dance I'm just, messin' around now I'm just, paintin' the town now I'm just, playin' the clown now I'll be gone, when I'm done We bop and jive to a 45 out on that old dance floor When her spouse who was built like a brick s**t house came and threw me out the door I'll be, wearin' a frown now I'll be, goin' to ground now Never, livin' it down now Thanks a bunch, sucker punch! It's only my madness that stops me from going insane.

Completely flattered as he is my number one musical hero... The reference in the song to the guy playing Mystery Train on the '58 6120 was a direct nod in the direction of Brian Setzer and his love of Scotty Moore and also his long association with the Gretsch 6120 Nashville guitar. It's only my madness that stops me from going insane.
