BB2019 build 614, ProTools 12.18. Followed tutorial exactly. After generating tracks, matching tempos, tracks do not drag from plug-in to ProTools. No ghost images of tracks either. Can't drag them individually or from the master (blue square).

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback. Can you please tell us a little bit more about your environment (operating system version, system specifications)? Also, it appears that there is an update for Pro Tools available to you (version 12.5). Have you tried installing this? Note that Pro Tools version 12.6 and higher require a new license. If you're able to upload a video of the issue happening then it would help us. You can use a free program like Open Broadcaster to do this and upload it to YouTube.

I've just downloaded and installed the latest BiaB and DAW plugin and verified I have the latest ProTools (2018.12, which is later than any of the 12.x versions). I am using Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.17134, which is automatically updated via subscription. My results with the latest:

1. The DAW loads in an instrument track OK.
2. I noticed that the movement between bars is not the same as with the application. I have to use the arrow keys to move rather than using tab.
3. I load a song and style, generate the tracks and get a notice that this worked correctly.
4. When I try to drag a track (or all tracks) onto the DAW workspace, nothing happens.

I will try to do a video and upload. Where would you like it uploaded to?

You need to have cloud storage to upload the video. +++ Dropbox +++, +++ Box +++ and Google Drive are three services that offer free, online storage for personal use.

OK, this is getting too hard. I just uploaded it to my own YouTube channel. Here's the link.

I have tried to "drag" the tracks (alone or in a group) to any of the workspace areas. None of them work. Note also that there is no "ghost image" showing when I try to drag the track.

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to show us that video.

Yes, please answer Pipeline's question, and just to clarify and expand on it a bit:
In the Band-in-a-Box DAW Plugin window, first verify where the tracks are being saved, in File | Prefs. Once you have the tracks generated, go to that folder location, e.g. B:\bb\BBPlugin\SavedTracks, and open up the folder with the most recent date. Try dragging some of those files on to Pro Tools, and tell us what happens...

There are two names for each file in that folder. The one that ends in _RC does drag into ProTools correctly. That one is a MIDI file type. The other, a WAV file type, does not drag into ProTools.

So it seems that you can't drag wave files from Explorer into Pro Tools. Perhaps solving this problem will fix the problem with dragging from the plugin. When you try to do that, what happens... does it just show you a circle with a cross through it? Or does something different happen?

Do you run Pro Tools as admin? This would in general prevent you from being able to drag n' drop from Explorer. I don't think this is related to your specific problem, because we would expect drag n' drop from the plugin to still work in that case, and also we would expect that you would be unable to drag BOTH MIDI and wave from Explorer.

Check in the Pro Tools settings - Setup | Preferences | Processing, the Import section has some relevant settings. In my testing no combination of these settings that I tried prevents me from being able to drag n drop files, but I think it's worth toggling "automatically copy files" to see if that makes any difference. Let us know what you find.

I've tried those things. Bottom line is this...it works in Reaper, so I'm switching to Reaper. I've had ProTools crashing several times anyway. I think Avid is losing it so I'm going in another direction. Thanks for the help.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
