Hi folks,
I have just got back into doing some playing on the acoustic guitar this last three or four years, have bought a few as well, just cheapies, but they are ok set up wise and will do me fine.
Would like to have a go now or at least noodle around with a classical guitar, I do have an old Yamaha G120 A from the seventies I believe, the neck is very chunky on it, and the action at 12 fret is about 4mm or so.
Probably because I am not used to it, I do find the action very high on it and would like not so chunky a neck as well.
I would just like a lot lower action which would make fingering a lot easier I think and maybe would give me the motivation to have a proper go on it.
Appreciate any views if you do play a classical guitar about how neck and action wise most will differ from ordinary acoustics?

I have been quite happy with my elcheapo Valencia solid cedar top that I bought from Rondo Music. The neck is chunky compared to my steel string Larrivée and Taylor and Yamaha acoustics, but it is adjustable. I’m no ace on classical, but a friend who is was floored by it. He said it was as easy to play with tone comparable to his multi-thousand, beeswax finish classical. He was actually kind of angry about it And it has a decent pickup built in. He said it weighs more than his by a noticeable amount, but that it probably will take knocks better than his. He said he would gig with it no issue. He was so impressed that he bought a bass from Rondo for his gigs with a local orchestra. This guitar takes tuning lower quite well. I’ve played it in open C before with no issues. This is similar to the one I bought. Mine does not have the cutout. I can’t tell whether this one has a truss rod. Classical guitarists do not play like other guitarists. They will not barre chords and their playing techniques are different, actually more articulate then others. If you are looking for an inexpensive classical guitar this one is the one to get. PS - a thanx to Rockstar for turning me on to Rondo Music years ago. I have a number of instruments from them now.

Ah thanks guys for info, had a look for that guitar in these parts, but seems no longer available, ah well, will keep an eye on ebay.
I learn something new every day as Mario says Classical players don't usually use barre chords, probably a good job in my case, as I was trying on my old Yamaha classical and its not the easiest thing to do, think I might try lowering the action a little by sanding down the underside of the saddle.
By reading up on classical playing seems a footstool too is a handy thing to have.
