Muscadine Wine

Thought I'd post up another one from the archive. This was the penultimate track done before I shut down and changed the hemisphere in which to live and love.

It was brought to mind by this thread:

https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=532401#Post532401

as it largely swings back and forth from 3/4 to 4/4 (or is it between 7/4 and 4/4?) I'd played it like that on acoustic without much thought, so it was a fun challenge to move it to BIAB. It has a kinda "alcoholic" swagger in this combo of time signatures, I think.

I'm sorry that I don't remember was style was used and can't find any production files. It was a midi style run through hard-synth. The "lead guitar" was intended to be a place-holder for a live guitarist, but that never happened. Just pretend the lead player got into the wine a bit early. Was also hoping for live drums, but again--it didn't get that far.

Harmony help from Michael Kardos.

Chorus: Muscadine wine, muscadine wine
It tastes so fine, that muscadine wine
Warms up my toes as it numbs up my nose.
I do love that muscadine wine.

I find my place. Grandma says grace.
Corn-bread and onions put a smile on my face.
Fresh turnip greens
and a bowl of white beans.
Wash it down with muscadine wine.

Chorus

Instrumental

I love the sound after dinner is downed
Grandpa, he gathers the kids all around
I strum my strings
while everyone sings
a song about muscadine wine.

Chorus x2

I remember this one from back in the day. Time signature changes are cool! Good writing and I dig your vocal too.

Nice to hear Mike in there also, I still hear from him once a month or so.

Good to see you can still post here from time to time!

Janice makes muscadine jelly and sauce every year and we always look forward to muscadine season...still looking for a descent dry muscadine wine smile

That made this song quite a treat!

Heck it absorbed us so much we never even thought about parsing things out for comments.

Suffice it say we LOVE it and your vocal carries the cool arrangement so well.

Oh yeah!

Uncle Si picks up and eats what he thinks are muscadine (musky-dime) berries

only to discover it's small varmint poop...

fantastic ending

Really nice work on this smile Love the chord progressions and thought your vocals sounded top notch. Nicely catchy as well, and I enjoyed the throw back vibes I get from it.

Thanks for sharing!

"Just pretend the lead player got into the wine a bit early." Lol!

Tangmo,
top notch! Really cool. 3/4 to 4/4 swing comes very naturally for you! I would not even attempt to come close to this. Clever lyrics. Overall, sounds very wholesome. I hope guitarist wakes up soon for the party.

Thank you for sharing!

Misha.

Tango, that was a great use of 3/4 to 4/4 time signature changes as the song proceeds! Don't hear that hardly ever, but you made great use of it! Great job with the vocals on a cool tune! Thanks, Torrey

A really cool tune! That vault must be full of solid gold, if this representative of what's in there. break out some more of them!!! Michael's harmony is spot on. Some what reminds me of something the Loving Spoonful, or The Band, might have done in their era. Loved it! best to you ...

I agree, your time changes do give the alcohol stagger to the feel of the song: I feel a slight blurring of my vision. I love your vocal on this!

Tangmo,

This is fantastic! I love the musical confidence that shines brightly from everywhere in this presentation.

The thing that impressed me the most, though, was how that crazy, mixed-up time signature was an amazing fit for creating a sense of 'having one too many'. I found that listening to you singing this song was an incredible and eye-opening journey in prosody. For me, this composition is driven by a brilliant burst of creative genius.

All the best,
Noel

Thank goodness, because I clicked the link and started listening before I read through your text. I couldn't quite figure out who was off, me or the guitar player:)

A challenging project. The groove reminds me of New Orleans. Nicely done.
