In the 1990s, when I was still in my teens (ages ago, right?), I watched this play by Warren Leight called "Side Man". This is a small tribute of mine to it.

Done with _QUAINT.STY (Quaint Campfire Singalong) and with 1070:Trumpet, Soloist SmoothJazzPoppy Ev16 090 [Soloist].

One last thing: hats off to the makers of Band-in-a-Box. All I did here was input the chords, select the style and soloist et voila'. Superb software - cheers!

I Remember "Side Man" (on Bandcamp)

Feedback, as always, very gratefully received :-)

That's as fine a progression as I've heard in a while. Love that movement of harmonies.

Thanks! I have a feeling that I could lower the volume on the trumpet a tad to let the harmonies shine through more, perhaps? but thanks :-)

Very nice composition...
For some reason, as your tune played, I kept hearing the words being sung...
"I remember... I remember... I remember you."
I enjoyed listening!

Nicely done smile It sounds like it was a pretty low-effort tune, but I'd have had no idea if you didn't state it. In particular, the horn solo fit perfectly in the mix. It's nice and relaxed and easy to take.

I enjoyed my listen - thanks for sharing!

Hey musician17, I admired the overall vibe on this. The arrangement is wonderful to the ears and a solid key signature choice too. Very gorgeous chord progression too. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Deryk and Joe! The horn solo idea was also BIAB's ... it suggested a horn solo, a piano solo and (if I'm not wrong) a guitar solo as its "best RealTracks" soloist suggestions. As soon as I saw the trumpet solo option, my eyes lit up :-) - and it was plain sailing from there :-) but yes, the chord progression was all mine, haha ... so thank you!

This is a perfect example what a good musician and BiaB can do together.

This is really good.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

James,

I like the chord progression as well—not sure if that’s a uke you have going on in the background but it sets a nice sound and structure. The trumpet solo melodically works really well, as others have noted, but I tend to agree with your instincts that it might be turned down a tad in volume (at least selectively in spots) to the let the backing instrumentation shine just a bit more.

Enjoyed my listen—nice tune you have here.

Best regards,

Deej

Thanks Deej !!! I have now updated the song, with the trumpet volume turned down a little - hope it works? Thanks again.
