One of my rare "highly personal" share to the public, initially from decades ago, but only now getting a proper arrangement and release: SORG The word means "Sorrow" in Icelandic (or "grief"), and the song originally came about after the untimely loss of a family member. It continues to be something I play for myself any time the occasion arises (which is far too often), and as I was doing just that only last week, I decided to follow through this time around with an arrangement while I was at it. Formalities:
Style is _SVELTE.STY RealTracks in style: 2877:Bass, Acoustic, AmericanaSlow16thsByron Ev16 060 RealTracks in song: ~364:Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Ev 065 RealTracks in song: 2879:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm AmericanaSparseSlow16thsColin Ev16 060 RealDrums in song: AmericanaRoots16th^
Piano provided by yours trulyp.s. I decided against my usual 'translated title' habit due to the personal nature of this piece and thus of the title associated with it.

... A very moving piece.
Bob Glad you think so, thank you for that. Sometimes it's not about intricate complexity or 'bells-n-whistles', as it were, you know. And actually, the way I normally play this is just the piano throughout (like in the first verse), so I was hesitant to even add anything more, but kinda had to for the sake of forum eligibility. But also, the gradual increase of instruments helps to counter the otherwise repetitiveness of the piece, I suppose, so I think it worked out alright.

Always is somehow special in a way to get the "Staff member" feedbacks, much obliged Sure, I know I've said that (probably several times) before but, as it still holds true I guess I'll keep saying it

Eddie,
Yes, this tune Is filled with sorrow. And very fragile and beautiful. There is something similar to Nordic melodies. As my preference, I thought it would be better to leave the ending with Tonic minor chord. But that's not a big problem, it's a very good melody. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.

There is something similar to Nordic melodies. Well sure, that's where I come from and melancholy is very much a trend in the music of this part of the world, so in a piece like this, which is essentially all about grief, such influences would be expected. As my preference, I thought it would be better to leave the ending with Tonic minor chord. There's a theory that says that 'Acceptance' is the final stage of grief, and that was the idea behind my use of a major chord at the end here - a glint of hope, if you will. I have a feeling that this 'trick' is more of a trend of the West than East(?), and probably more so in american music than european. It certainly was a big 'trend' in american pop music back in the 80's, when this was originally written (Lionel Richie's " Hello " is a prime example), a bit of that thing that in the english language is called "on a positive note", only applied very literally to music here. Thanks for the listen and feedback

I'm finally getting my music system back up and running and this is the first song that I have listened to here in a long time and man this is winner all the way. I really liked the melody and supporting chord progression. Excellent work here.
Hopefully you will share more like this!
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Both lovely and melancholy. It has a very cinematic feel that could lend it to many film scenes.
The light/delicate piano performance very much delivers the sadness.
Nicely done!

Wow - this is stunning, Eddie. Really gorgeous, but definitely somber. I personally wouldn't change a thing. It sounds beautiful, heartfelt, vulnerable, and sincere. You should be proud of this one - thanks for sharing

WoI personally wouldn't change a thing. Really?! I'd like to change at least three things! So you see, in music (or any art) there's always room for improvement. But I won't say which three things

The word means "Sorrow" in Icelandic (or "grief") ==== It continues to be something I play for myself any time the occasion arises (which is far too often) Like now, as I've only just suffered the biggest loss in a very long time, of my faithful friend of over 12 years and... well, it's been in my head a lot these past couple of days, shall we say. So I hope I'm forgiven for bumping this year-old submission this one time only (I've never done that before, and hope I never do again) due to the circumstances.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
