I stumbled upon a website today that has at least a dozen of our songs available to play and download. Each song is accompanied by the photo we used when uploaded to SoundCloud. From what little I've been able to determine:

- The site is registered as located in Burnaby, Canada; however, that could be spoofed.
- The URL of the site is syloken.com - LOAD AT YOUR OWN RISK.
- Playing a song does not take you to SC
- Down loading one requires flash and I'm not about to go that route.
- Since there is a band of the same name it is difficult to search for comments about the site.

How did they rip them from Soundcloud sans a hack or recording each one? And I only had a couple of the songs available for download. Even more strange is that their opening page lists many popular songs available for download...also free.

Disturbing to say the least. I attached a screen shot of their page (partial) with our music.

Any thoughts? Thanks,

Bud

EDIT: Other forum folks's music is also there.

Hmmm, I see a whole bunch of my songs are on that site too, also available for download with the song pics from soundcloud.

None of my songs on soundcloud have download enabled.

How did they do that?

Only thing I can figure is they used a bot to record them from SoundCloud and then load them to their site. But why are they doing that with folks like J&B? SC has millions of songs. I don't think we are in much demand.

Well....I checked that link you noted.....and did a search.

They do list "You're Lookinng For World_Remix" there.....huh?
Under that song I clicked my 'chulaivet1966" link and ALL the songs I have on S/C are listed on a new page also.
No...it's not the S/C profile page...it's their page layout.

My drivel does not have what one calls a 'fan base' so it is puzzling.
I'm befuddled and can't see how any website entity could benefit from doing this?

I'll be watching what other G2 comes into this thread regarding that site.

Carry on....thanks for giving us a heads up.

Just for giggles I decided to search to see if they had any of my tunes, so I typed http://syloken.com/mp3/kajunjeaux/, and sure enough I found four of my tunes there. When I used the pull down menu and looked under 'Newest Music' my Kajunjeaux name was listed. It appears everyone's music at SoundCloud must have been moved there.

Bud,

I just checked and see some of my stuff there as well. Really weird - I also see it's a WordPress site, which means they have some advanced media tools, etc.

The other interesting thing is that the music (mine anyway) sounds like it has been boosted volume-wise, again very strange.

No idea how they could have lifted this content from SoundCloud, especially if the tracks do not have the download feature enabled - plus they cleanly lifted the artwork as well...

Thanks for posting this - kind of disturbing and would like to investigate a bit more. If they lifted this content, what else from SoundCloud could they have? Profile information? That would suck!

Seems they have most folks. Even the stuff I had on Soundcloud is there. I only had stuff on Soundcloud to see how it worked. I don’t see how anyone would be all that interested in my stuff.

I accidentally went to a different page off this site it came back with an error and pointed me off to a site with a URL ending .me. This is very suss.

That's scary. I wonder if it's just all people on SoundCloud?

What is WhoisGuard?

WhoisGuard is a privacy protection service that prevents people from seeing your name, address, phone number and email when they do a Whois search on your domain. It puts its address information to the public Whois instead of yours to protect you from potential spam and even identity theft.

So the thief is trying to hide....

Another site showed the Canada information you referenced Bud:

Datacenter: Cloudflare, Inc.
Server IP: 104.27.157.174
Location: Canada
City: Montreal
Nameservers: bayan.ns.cloudflare.com, lisa.ns.cloudflare.com

So that just means the website and data are stored there.

Yep!! I'm not that talented but they also have a bunch of my SoundCloud songs, about 14. I did just write to report to SoundCloud, not sure what good that will do.

Hmm...
evil bird spreads the seeds? Some of my stuff is there too.
I doubt S.cloud will or can do anything about this...

But I believe Google can... at least remove it from their search engine.
If somebody wants to write to them to block this site, I will sign it.

Bud

Yeah they probably use a robot to rip the songs from sc and load them onto their site. A case of good software being used for a not so good cause. There may be many ways they make money from doing this, some of which we cannot even dream. They may be collecting email addresses or making money from advertising (affiliate links) who knows. I have learned from studying seo that if you get tons of visitors to your site there are tons of ways of making money. If you found them they are probably ranking in google.

I found my stuff on loads of sites which I find unnerving. All the fuss about copyright on the net means nothing when work gets hijacked so easily. I have deleted my SC account, not that it will have much effect.

Update: They seem to have direct links to SC as my stuff has dissapeared from two sites after I deleted my account.
Check the privacy settings before you delete anything as it may not be neccesary.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
