Hi Folks,

Here is my latest experiment for your enjoyment or displeasure. Please forgive linguistic mistakes, I admit this was faaar from perfect. Same goes for story line, I doubt it bears solid coherency smile Critique is ALWAYS welcomed. Thank you!

Needle In Hay

Midi arrangement in vArranger. Mixed in Cakewalk. Synths of Halion.
Band:
1173: Accordion PopCalypso
2903: Bass Acoustic
Drums: BossaRock
Guitar:1401: Electric Rhythm
Guitar2: 3162 Baritone Electric
913: Piano, Smooth Poppy
2785: Flute

Lyrics:
Rusted out parts, leaky gaskets,
I see an undertaker carrying my casket.
His face is frozen still, like Calacatta marble
I hear the wheels of a catafalque rattling loud.

You're so vulnerable inside your shell, frightened of the night.
But thousands of years couldn't erase the urge.
Follow blindly into the light.

Sands of pyramids are seeping through my fingers.
And heart adrenalized like a wild party swinger.
Forever young mummies rest in sarcophagi.
I'm jealous of their dreams, their long dreams.

Past will leave dust on the table, perhaps some fossils and coal.
Still thousands of years can't erase the hope of finding the proof of soul.

Walking thin line on hot wire, got this feeling of a frequent mile flyer.
Laughing raven piercing clouds sees the Earth covered in ash and flowers.

Stencil prophecies written in stone,
To bypass cookie cutter days.
But thousands of years didn't stop the craving
Of searching of needles in hay.

Great stuff Misha,
I really enjoyed the fun and insight of the lyrics...the irony of stencils and cookie cutters is cool.
Needles in a haystack, sands in the hour glass, gasket caskets and finally coal powered soul searching.
Musically VERY enjoyable as well.
You're a font of fun and a engaging tunes.

Cheers

Very nice work Misha! Whenever I listen to your songs, the lilt and expressiveness of your voice reminds me of George Harrison! You have a wonderful ability to be inventive with melody and chord structure! Impressive again! Thanks, Torrey

Great imaginary!! Love the sort of ominous feeling of this song. I can almost see this as a metal song, I think my son would love it. Very different and well produced.

WoW...

I wonder how many here will miss out on this great poetic piece...
Or maybe I'm just seeing more than is there...
Who are you?...
What is your educational background?...
Are you a disguised poet showing you can also write background melodies for you poetry?...
The lyrics of this song matches many of the poetic pieces I have read...
The background tracks & melody emphasizes the somber tone of your poetry...
This song could easily be dissected in an advanced level English class along with Faulkner & others...
WoW!

I just read & played again...
WoW!

Hans, Thank you for your positive comments. And BIG thanks for comment on SC. You are right! I listened to this next day and all frequency was all over the place. Will have to sit with the mix a bit longer.
-------------------
FJ, Thank you for your time and nice words!

Bob, Thank you for excellent feedback on lyrics! I initially thought of doing a parody on morbid subject, but it came out a bit darker than I anticipated smile
-------------------
Jim, you are too kind!
Well, I have a degree in arts (not music related) I have done sculpture for some years...clay, bronze...but who need arts these days? smile
The ships had left their bays,
their wooden structures obsolete, by standards of today
and yet, their ghosts are present in my dreams...
their flags are wobbling high, they're played by passing winds,
like cat is playing with it's prey, then stops...when life is gone.
The sacred empty space of soul that can't be filled with fashion, food or gold,
like language that was lost, as weathered tombstone.
I have no say in this, I watch the cycle with a hint of mirth,
at times I wish I could... swim back in time,
like crayfish, backwards,
from the death to birth.

Jim, see what you made me do...? smile I only wrote about a dozen of things in English prior joining this forum. I listen to songs, read lyrics, get help with my text here, it works smile Thank you for your support!
--------------------
Dave, sorry it has to be "dark" vocabulary, next time I will try to make something up with positive meaning smile Thank you for kind words!

Misha.

Sweet extra production (octave up back-vocals set back in the mix) and a lyric that requires study. I "get" the imagery at a second-grade level, but I have no idea what the song is about. I think I might even be disappointed if YOU did. Thoroughly enjoyed the listen.

Nicely done! A breath of fresh air, as always. Really diggin' the abstract lyricism and flutes in the backing tracks. Gives a really unique and whimsical quality. Love the melodies too.

Thanks for sharing smile

"Rusted out parts, leaky gaskets,
I see an undertaker carrying my casket"

Now that alone is worth the price of admission smile

What a video this could be!!!

We've always enjoyed a good "you connect the dots" song and, man, is this ever a fine example.

The write, the vocals, the band, the arrangement...everything well demonstrates your high, high level of creativity.

Kudos!

Tangmo,
Thank you for listening and you interesting comments!
----------
John,
Thank you for your time and supportive comments here and on SC!
----------
Noel,
Thank you for taking time in on this and positive feedback! As wise man said: "you are what you eat" smile
---------
Deryk,
Thank you! So true, I like that: "whimsical quality"! smile
---------
Joe,
Thank you for listening and nice comment. I think I fell short addressing high frequencies... Mix is a little too thin.
---------
J&B,
Thank you for listening and your awesome feedback!
Still, I suck at mixing smile Next morning I listened to this... and realized this was a step back. Bud you do not have to be soft with me, I take your hints seriously.

Misha.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
