Hi all,
Here is my latest contribution to the forum:

https://soundcloud.com/user-952388172/good-things-come-in-threes

The song is in 3/4 (and 6/8) but I wanted it to sound unlike a traditional waltz. It features guitar, accordion, piano, strings, bass and RealDrums (a mixture of 'Nashville' RealDrums).

As always, I encourage and welcome comments on the song, arrangement and mix.
Cheers,
Mike

This is really lovely. Wonderful progression and melody. The ebb and flow in instrumentation as they joined and left the "band" kept this very fresh. I loved the slow-down at the end. It's one of my favorite things when it happens.

A minor crit...the ending might work better with a little editing to extend the notes at the tail end. Two bars is really not enough to always get a natural decay.

The selection and blend of RT's is solid. Agree that the ending is too abrupt.

Very pretty song and arrangement. Enjoyed it.

Hi Mike, this was wonderful! I found this very easy to listen and rhythm is easy to follow. Excellent guitar riffs too. Great work!

beautiful and cinematic. Very nice composition and instrument choices.
Accordion almost always makes things better smile

Suggestions... not much on this but two minor things. I think accordion would benefit from stereo width or reverb and so are strings. My 2 cents...

Thank you for sharing!

Hi Mike,

I'm sitting here at the moment listening as I type and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

I absolutely love that interplay between 3/4 and 6/8 it's hypnotised me. You've done a great job with this composition. Your choice of instruments and those orchestral strings really sit really pleasantly on the ear. The mix is excellent.

All the best,
Noel

Very nice, Garry!

I like the arrangement. The interplay between 3/4 and 6/8 goes well. The accordion really compliments the strings.

Really enjoyed this listen.

Very nicely flowing rhythm, the chording is also nice. Lots of things happening in the arrangement, thus keeping the interest very well. Is that bass a RealTrack? I really like its sound.

Hi Janne,
Thanks very much for your comments. The bass is not a RealTrack. I wrote the part (I played bass in a previous life). I used the Kontakt electric bass to get the sound I liked.
Cheers, Mike

Mike,

A very enjoyable listen. The arrangement keeps the ear engaged throughout. Nice, consistent musical theme, creating an excellent instrumental.

Excellent mix.

I wouldn't know the difference between 3/4 and 6/8 if it bit me on the butt, but...I certainly enjoyed this... smile

My question about the title was immediately (and sweetly) answered!! This is really nicely done. Love the way the bass and the melody play off each other! Lovely melodic piece! Wonderfully crafted Mike!! Take care. Greg

Nice, though I think the hesitant bass, as well as it's slightly growly tone, in the intro is a little off putting.
Rustyspoon may be right about the accordion and strings benefiting from a little sweetening.

Thanks Steve. The 3/4 and 6/8 interplay was my way of writing a 3/4 piece that didn't sound like a traditional waltz.
Cheers,
Mike

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
