Great collab y'all!!!
J&B
PS And thanks for the history lesson...

J&B,
Thanks very much.
I reread all of his works and a bio in 1977. I've reread sporadically since then and have chanced upon a new bio or two in that time. He was a very driven, flawed and contradictory fellow. He tried to promote revolution in England while drinking in pubs but gave up when he discovered there was no taste for it in pubs - just the beer.
The vocals are absolutely ace. The guitars are Les Paul into a Marshall Superlead, (I think), at ear mashing volume and captured with a blend of two mics. No EQ, no compression and no FX. The amp and mics did all the influential stuff.
Pleased to have sent you to the search engine - every day is full to the brim with potential learning.

Cheers

Very strong collaboration! Listens very smoothly, no painful points or such (to my ears), kept me entertained all the way. Grungy uplifting smile Lyrics are a bit coded, but with help of mr.Google I was able to get a sense of the story.
Thank you for sharing and congrats to all who participated!
Misha.

Misha,
Thank you but the gala release will be booze free for me.
I'm glad the internet lead you to real news.
You are, as always, very generous.

Torrey and I decided not to write a song but to prepare an assignment for the forum.
It's the "chalkie" in me, sorry.
On another level - THANKS for the generous assessment.
You've passed the assignment.

The tracks sound really good. Drums and bass and guitars really Pop!

The solo is nice. I thought it could come up in volume slightly.

The vocals are excellent. They have the kind of "dramatic immediacy" that characterize Elvis Costello or Joe Jackson - a good match for the song/style.
I thought they could have come up just slightly - to "sit even" with the guitars (they seem "a bit back" from them).

The song is well written, interesting... though many of the references elude me - haven't read that much Orwell.

Good stuff, y'all.

Yes, excellent rocker!!! Great job Ray and co. (Torrey knocked out a great vocal). I also feel the vocal could come up a little, at least in places. Really good stuff!! Take care. Greg

Loved the guitar tone. Cranked Marshall.... man, can't beat those things for tone.... well maybe you can but it's a tough fight.

Loved the groove on the song.... has a Lou Reed rawness rocking kind of feel.... Brit Rock.

Nice job on this

I would like to say a big thank you to all of you who have taken time to listen and comment on this song! I want to state that Ray has been more than generous in his giving me so much credit in this song, but the truth is that this one is a product of his musical genius and incredible lyrical abilities! It was very easy to develop a melody for this when he presented it to me with the backtrack already in place! The melody just seemed to present itself after listening a couple of times. All I had to do then was massage the words a little to make them fit and ad a couple here and there! Greg and James did excellent work with killer guitar sounds that I just loved! But one of the most under-appreciated parts of this one is the super bass line that Ray layed down for this! Over all I feel it came out pretty good and was very proud to be a part of this one! Once again, thanks to all of you for lending us an ear for a few minutes! T

Hi guys,

in my last post I wrote that due to unpleasant reasons I don't have the time and peace to follow the forum for a while. But I don't want to miss all that great stuff, so I started to at least dash through the posts yesterday and songs and I'm glad I did. But dashed? Just until I read this post and listened to that great collab.

Man, I am impressed - this is something very special. Congrats on those really awesome lyrics and well, as long as Torrey is involved top notch music is guaranteed.

Everything just fantastic - great mix and mastering, too. Like I said: I'm impressed, no: deeply impressed.

All the best,

Stefan

Greg,
Thanks. Rest assured that the vocals sound great in the mix before Soundcloud got to it. How could it be otherwise with Torrey's voice?

Mt hacker -you're right about the tone.
Greg played an LP through a vintage Marshall head and vintage pair of 4x12s at brain smashing volume to get that Marshall gone wild tone. Luckily he's in Texas so I didn't have to hear the session.

Thanks Scott - the guitars and vocals are as you say.
I was lucky with this one: the mastering engineer responded with words to the effect of: " The mix was good so I just mastered it."
That was a treat to read.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
