Hi folks - I've had biab for years - I have a copy of the latest now - but have really only used it as a play-along. A couple days ago I downloaded a midi file for "Moanin'" and it's like listening to a lap organ - it has all the notes of the melody and some chords but it's really thin. I'd like to add some realband tracks and have watched a couple videos but have gotten some really whacked results with my own attempts. Does anybody have a pointer to a video or tutorial that covers this in some depth? Or maybe I'm off in the weeds. Thanks for any info - Mark

Do the Chords and Tempo appear to show correctly?

These are pretty much the 2 defining requirements.
Sometimes MIDI from the internet was not using a click and thus the Tempo can wander, which would cause the chords to get out of time also.

If needed adjust the Tempo map to fit.

You can do this manually in the Tempo window or let the ACW help with that.
(Yes I get that it's MIDI but the ACW can temporarily render it to use as audio if needed)

You may also try narrowing your Style choices to one's that more closely match what the song parameters are. I searched for 'Moanin' in the StylePicker search area and the StylePicker displayed only the Styles that match those parameters. Simply audition the Styles in the list by selecting the option to play the Style over your chord progression to determine the best matching Style.

Wow! I had no idea that you can do that!

I'm away from my music computer now but I can't wait to get back to it to try that out.

Thank you for the tip - molte grazie - M

So what I did was start with the midi file in biab, added realtracks (the combo with Freddie green) from the style picker, output it in a format that could be read by realband, that sounded really good so I output it as a .wav file and picked it up in audacity to clip it down to size and output it as an mp3. A very windy road but it sounds really good now. I think, though, that I should have been able to any and all of those steps in either rb or biab but don't know how. But I did get what I wanted

thanks for the help, and any further ideas that would help me make more sense out of these wonderful tools is greatly appreciated - M

If you have an MP3 encoder installed on your computer, you can export your song as an MP3 from BIAB or RB. The one that works with Audacity should also work with BIAB and RB. There are several ways to edit and trim the audio to a specific size and eliminate space to clip audio to size in BIAB too if you want. However, I often use Audacity for those items just as you do as well. It's quick and easy.

I'm glad you're getting the good sounds from BIAB that you want.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
