So, as many of you know, I have a German Shepherd that I have been training to work with HRD search. (Human Remains Detection...aka... Cadaver dog) It's been a long journey and have faced many trials and obstacles including from members of my own team. We have moved to a new team as a result of the ongoing issues we faced. The new team opened up a vast world of resources and opportunities to us. As a result, I found and became a member of NCPDA. (North Carolina Police Dog Association.)

On May 14, we went to one of the NCPDA HRD certification tests. They set up a number of training aids in a section of a junkyard/wood lot. I had 30 minutes total time to find 75% of the hidden sources. I put Lilly into the search area and in 3 minutes time, she had located and indicated 100% of the hidden HR sources. The facilitator of the certification turned to me and said.... "That dog knows what she's doing... it's a PASS for me. Excellent job!" So, now, Lilly is officially a certified HRD K9 and I was so proud of that girl on the job she did.

Thought some of you might like to know what we've been doing.

Way to go Lilly and Herb! It has always amazed me how much the evolutionary paths of dogs and humans have integrated together. We depend on them, they depend on us. Unlike any other human-animal relationship.

An interesting video on the human-dog relationship: https://topdocumentaryfilms.com/secret-life-dog/

Thanks everyone for commenting.

We've been busy around here and I haven't had a chance to reply. My apologies. She tested on Tuesday and then we had a team training set up and that was held Saturday at my farm. We had 4 HRD dogs and several tracking/trailing/air scent dogs. We had a large time, and were at it for 10 hrs. We also had some of the support ground search members and they were working a scenario and running shorter trails for the dogs that track live people.

We all had fun and I know quite a few learned some new things.... one lady said "I've never seen my dog do THAT before". Another tracker dog suddenly veered off the track and into the creek, face down in the water, snapping at the water and just having a fun time. The handler mentioned that little episode. She was puzzled. I asked her where exactly this happened. She described the location. I told her that's where I had submerged one of our training aids and the dog knew it but since it wasn't trained for HRD, didn't have a response that the handler would have known. We had 2 visitors from other teams. I got a feeling they will be back again. It was hot, but we worked a number of search sectors in the woods with nice deep shade and a breeze.

Now... it's kinda back to normal. I have to build some bee box accessories.... two screened bottoms and a solar wax melter. I'll be in the shop if anyone needs me.......

Great job. That's not an easy accomplishment and takes a lot of dedication and work on your part to help Lilly get there. Congratulations.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
