Hi guys,

Two quick questions. There's no quantizing of audio in RB, correct? I'm comfortable in RB though I realize other DAWs are more powerful. Not trying to create anything crazy, it would just be nice to make minor time corrections.

Secondly, I use RB's TC Helicon to generate harmony from audio rather than MIDI and it does a nice job. It can't, however, auto-tune as my TC Helicon VoiceLive Play can, correct? I'm looking at the Antares Access.

Thanks!

Best, Warren

The TC in RealBand can auto tune based on a MIDI track, but it does transform the audio into one with some artifacts. I prefer to auto tune first using Melodyne, then using the TC-Helicon to do the harmony.

Not a good one natively that I know of, but you can work the other way (adjust the Tempo map to match the Audio using the ACW) so then MIDI will match the audio tempo
Actually I'm not really sure what 'quantize Audio' means to you though ..

Yeah, tuning isn't one of the TCHelicon plugin's fortes, unless you give it a direct MIDI track .. there are a couple free tuning FX you could try to find, like GSnap, but an Anteres product would likely be better or maybe Melodyne. (GSnap is an old VST so as always be careful you get a safe source to download from. GVST was the original source as I recall)

Many times I still lean toward my old OBTune (an old Anteres variation by Oberheim) .. doubt you'd even find that anymore though.
There are likely ways to record your hardware VoiceLive unit back into the project also, which may be even better.

.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thanks guys! I tried GSnap and couldn't get any good result out of it? It was recognized OK by RB and opened fine but wasn't pulling notes up to pitch (that were maybe 20-25 cents off pitch) before artifacts were introduced? Will probably get Antares Access. Rharv, by 'quantize Audio' I meant being able to adjust/move timing in audio recordings of horns or whatever to a grid as you can in Logic? Thanks always!

To me a home record is has no need for auto tune. I assume if someone is making a CD then they should be able to sing. Just keep signing over and over to different tracks then copy/paste all the good parts to one track. If you just can't get a note then use auto tune on that one small section.

I like OB-Tune, as well, but it is limited as a 32-bit DXi plugin. Unfortunately, it is (and hasn't been for a long time) available any more.

I've tried GSnap, but like Warren, I was not satisfied with the results.

Melodyne does a great job, but it also generates some weird artifacts at times. I have not had great success using it live on a track; I usually offload the WAV file and use the standalone, set the parameters to bring everything more or less into tune, but not 100%, and then edit note by note as needed. That makes the end result less robotic.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
