OK I want to buy BIAB for Windows for the first time but I don't know which version to buy regarding the amount of content that comes with each version.

I don't want just the basic version but don't know if I need the UltraPlusPak.

I play Rock/Hard Rock/Classic Rock/Instrumental/"New Age"/Blues.

I will use it for practice and composing in my DAW.

Thanks!

I suggest that you go for the UltraPak+. One reason is that the more you have the more fun you will have and the more you will learn about other genres.

Speaking of genres just because a style is listed as jazz or country doesn't limit them to just those genres. Many times I will use a jazz style for country, ballads, or new age/ambient. Sometimes it is the other way around. Taking a style out of its genre is one that I enjoy the most.

Note that I work with mostly MIDI for my music with sometimes an RT thrown in, but when I work for someone else most of the time I use RTs and RDs.

I hope this helps and good luck.

PS - you also get a 30 day money back guarantee so what do you have to lose?

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

rvman, firstly welcome to the forums.

The best advice is to purchase the highest version pak that you can afford.

The basic version is worth avoiding (Pro Pak)

The mega pak gives you 500+ RealTracks while the Ultra pak lists 2700+ RealTracks.

If you can afford it, the Ultra pak range is better value for money.

Thanks guys. I was thinking either of the top two would be the one to get. I'm just a little concerned that I may not need everything in the ultrapak+ since I'm just starting out with the program.

If it was me, I'd start with Ultrapak (without the plus).
Future upgrades become considerably better priced, and the plus(+) isn't important for starting with the program.

That said, sometimes the plus version does give you 'Bonus' material you may never see offered again (or it may be included as part of the next year's update).
It's a chance you take. But to jump in and see what this program is all about, the Ultrapak should do you just fine IMHO.
You'll have more than you can digest for the first few months. wink
After that any upgrades, as mentioned, will be much cheaper, including the plus upgrade .. especially around the new year when everything new gets released at discount prices.

Others may have differing points of view, but that would be MY starting point knowing what I know now.

Yep... I'm with them.... Buy as far up the food chain as you can afford. There's a lot of stuff in there... much of it you may never use, but then again.... you never know. You might wake up one morning and decide..... dang.... I need to write me a country song and then I been jonesing for some smooth jazz.... well, you will have what it takes. PLus, on the realistic side.... you can use all sorts of things in BB/RB if you have them.... in your rock, bluz, New age compositions.

You won't regret the UP+ version. It's just so useful. AND... it's the one I use.

Short story.... I started out at the cheapest one. I called PG and talked with one of the folks there... turns out what I bought didn't have the real tracks I wanted. So... for the difference in price, they send me the version I really needed. The following year, I believe, I went to the full version and have been there ever since.... and loving every minute of it.

The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
