Forum members seemed to have enjoyed hearing my rendition of WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN. I have gone ahead and recorded Gershwin's SUMMERTIME for your listening pleasure. Again, I have programmed the chord changes in Band in a Box, made a MIDI file and then opened up in LogicExpress where I did my piano thing. I changed the bass line to accomodate chord subs but hardly did anything with the drums - perhaps I'll go back and fancy it up a bit. Nothing with panning or EQ either - apparently it sounded just fine without much tampering.
Constructive feedback always welcome. Here's the link and thanks for listening. Greetings from the San Francisco Bay Area.

Geroge, move this over to "Off-Topic" to get some airtime

Yes, the OT forum is for: "....for music-related discussions that aren't about PG Music products. " In this case the discussion will be about your version of Summertime.

OT is traditionally where folks post there arrangements and compositions routinely. You will get good feedback from the nice folks over in OT.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Dan

Very nice indeed, one mo' time.

And yes, post this on the Off Topic Forum, along with your Saints one, too!

That's where people typically go to listen to user's submisssions and yours are great ones!

George:

If that's you playing, my hat is off to you - way off.

What piano sound are you using?

Yes, that's me on the keys. I've been playing, practicing, improvising, and teaching this piece in several keys over the past few months and so had a lot of ideas from which to choose. The piano, oddly enough, is just the lowly and much maligned Steinway that comes with Garageband/Logic.

It is not necessarily the sound that makes it but the person playing the sound. That was the case here, great chops.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

George:

I was replying to the post you deleted on the other forum, and when I went to send, I found it had been deleted.

Very nicely done George - the playing and production. I like my KR-7 too (other than me, you're the first person I know that has one), however I gave up on the internal sound. Just tonight, I loaded up a wave file I had recorded on it a few years ago - I had forgotten how thin the sound was, especially in the bass.

Glenn-

Yes, acquired the KR-7 through a publisher. Love playing it but, like you, only use it as a controller.

The local Long and McQuade has a KR-107 in stock (the KR7's successor - it's been here for quite a while). I tried it a few months ago. Other than a slight rearrangement of the some buttons, I couldn't tell them apart.

I guess they were going to blow the world away with the V-Piano. I tried one a few weeks ago, and be darned if it didn't sound much like my KR7. Fortunately, I was a beta tester for Pianoteq, and received the Pro version gratis. I often tool a sound for a specific song.

Very nice piano, but why MIDI?
Realtracks on bass and drums would sound a whole lot better.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
