(have posted that in the german board first but maybe here's an even better chance for helpful response)

Hello,
as the title says, when I try to replace an instrument track with a different Real Track version I only get an empty list.

I tried to follow this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5hgQOfiz74

but instead of that extensive selection shown there nothing is displayed for me if I try to do the same.

If I want to choose a different style for my song arrangement it works great, but then all the instruments are changed, as well as groove and style.

For a certain song I just wanted to see if I might be offered a few different bass variations to choose from. The bass part is a bit boring in that case and plays only the basic notes.

I could play that on a keyboard of course but I would also like it to function that way (and as it obviously is supposed to do).

BiaB 2019 for Windows, UltraPAK and some Xtra Style PAKs (1, 5 and 6) here.

Due to the sheer amount of the whole package and limited storage capacity of my system SSD I had to put the Real Tracks on a different hard drive. No problems with that if I want to try some other styles. But when I'm trying to only exchange individual tracks with other Real Track variations I can see no way to direct it to search for the right folder.

Would be glad if someone could point me to the right solution. Thx in advance.

Hi Jan,

I've just had a look at the video and this particular one is about choosing the best "Realtracks for your song" -- as the title says. This process is one where BIAB makes decisions based on the song's settings. If you are not getting anything showing up, that could mean that BIAB cannot find suitable Realtracks (RTs).

As shown on the image below, what I suggest is the following...

1. In the mixer, right-click on the track that you want to change (#1 on image)

2. Choose "Select Realtrack" -- this is the top option (#2)

3. Now choose "Select Realtrack..." from the second menu the appears (#3)

This will take you into Realtrack Picker.

4. Once in Realtrack Picker, click the button at the bottom of the screen called "Show All" -- this will clear the filter and make all RTs visible.

5. Click on the heading called "Tempo" and the list will be sorted by tempo. The column is to the right of "Feel" (i.e. sw & EV) and may appear as "Tem...". To see the full word, in the headings row, drag the right edge of the column to the right.

6. With RTs sorted by tempo, navigate to those RTs that are in the tempo range of your song. Generally, the range is -10 to +15 of a song's tempo. For example, if your song is at tempo 110, suitable RTs will most likely be those that range from tempo 100 to tempo 125.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Thank you very much for your effort, Noel. Following your instructions the pop-up window was still empty (except a few headlines stating 'no matches').
What helped was to re-scan for the RealTracks folder in the preferences window. An advice kindly given me in the german board. Now everything shows up as it should.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
