Hi there folks,

Trying out the Synthfont64 v 3.112 as default synth in biab 2019 (though I do prefer Halion)

I notice when I open the default synth dialog there is an option in SynthFont64 to check for an update, there is an updated version 3.201 available, but where do I install it? as all the plugin folders I have tried so far have failed to update it, when I recheck for an update within biab 2019 64 bit again, just says there is an update available.

I have even tried installing the update in bb\data\ibx64 but no good even though there is a SynthFont64 .dll there.

Any tips appreciated.
Thanks.

As it is a VST instrument by default it goes in C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins

Thanks.

I have installed and tried biab 64 to load it from there, but it still retains the old version number and checking for updates says an updated version is available.

So a bit of a vicious circle, unless biab has it installed somewhere else and I need to update that location.

1. Run the install package as an Administrator.

If that does not work, see if you can rename the old DLL to something other then what it is now and try reinstalling as an Administrator.

I just did the the upgrade and it works just fine here. Before I did it, I checked the properties of both the 32bit and thee 64bit DLL's and then rechecked the properties of both DLL's after the upgrade and the versions did change on my end.

Also since you said you also have a copy of the 64bit DLL in your BB\Data\libx64 directory, I would rename that one to something else for now and then copy the updated SynthFont64.dll from C:\Program Files\VST directory to your BB\Data\libx64 directory. That way you have both of them the same version.

On your properties-details for the file, the updated version should show file version 3.2.0.1

That is what I have on my end.

Thanks to you all for you great advice, got it sorted.

I renamed the SynthFont file to old in the lib64 folder, and copied over from where it is installed in vst plugins and all is well. Latest version now.

Thanks once again for the great help.

I ran into the same problem when I tried the update but solved it a different way. In my case I went into the BIAB Plugins/Default Synth menu and under Options used Remove VST Plugin from List to remove the VSTSynthFont64 entry. Then I added it back again from the Add VSTi Plugin from the bottom of the Synth slot. The old version was then replaced with the new one.

Since we are on the Synthfont topic, has anyone found other really worth while Banks to download that will run in it?

This v3.201 update looks good since it improves upon the reverb features. However, I am confused. Version 3 and above of this software is not freeware. I got version 3.112 with BIAB2019 and it seems to be fully functional. But now that I want to update will it only work for 15 days and require $$.

/UPDATE
I just went ahead and updated to V3.201. Time will tell if it times out.

MusicStudent,

I believe someone with PG Music posted around the time 2019 was released that V3.112 of Synthfont64 is a release specific to PG Music. Beside all the other features available with the release of V3, this PG Music exclusive does not have the 15 day trial period.

I have a feeling that the update is going to be free when you only use it within biab, because when you are on trial it shows the day countdown at bottom of the synth I think.

For other applications even the original version was only a 15 day trial, but probably most will use it in biab.

I think supporting continued development is in the best interest of everyone. This developer seems to be more active than Plogue so I paid the $17 US. I downloaded the Synthfont 2 editor program as well as the latest update for the Synthfont64 player. In practice I've found little to no difference between using Synthfont and Plogue Sforzando.

Yes, I was hoping that the BIAB licence for Synthfont carried through to the update. smile

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
