A Southern Girl
© 2019 Kenny Leverett

Raised to respect
But still just a little bit wild
All grown up
But to me she’s a woman child

Just like a southern girl
She’s a southern girl
A southern girl
She’s a southern girl
Drives too fast
Talks too slow
But for all I need
She’s the one to know
A southern girl
She’s a southern girl

You’d better like her Daddy
And hope that he likes you
Cause that’s his little angel
And your intentions
Had better be true

Cause she’s a southern girl
She’s a southern girl
A southern girl
She’s a southern girl

Cooks fried chicken
And good cornbread
That you’ll crave for the rest of your life
Puts sweet notions
Inside my head
Sure feels right

Just like a southern girl
She’s a southern girl
A southern girl
She’s a southern girl
Drives too fast
Talks too slow
But for all I need
She’s the one to know
A southern girl
She’s a southern girl

Kenny,

This is the way Good Easy Southern Rock is written!!.. Has the flavor of Neil Young at his peak - or BETTER than than! Love it.

Cool opening. Good band. Nice solo...

Another good vocal (the highs could be rolled off a bit. It's a little "crispy"). Cool BGVs.

"Cooks fried chicken
And good cornbread
That you’ll crave for the rest of your life"

Oh, yeah.

Worth many listens...

Kenny, I agree with Floyd about the Neil Young comparison! The melody in the chorus is hit making material IMHO!! This one is without a doubt my favorite of anything I've heard of yours!! Thanks, Torrey

Kenny,
You had me singing along on the chorus - love the rolling beat and that ( phased?) baritone guitar.
I like the description of this girl -she sounds as cool as your song!

Another nice one Kenny...
Good lyrics...
I really liked the line...
Quote:
Cooks fried chicken
And good cornbread
That you’ll crave for the rest of your life

A nicely penned line to which "Southern" folk can relate.
I enjoyed this one!

Nice one..chorus is Brilliant, lyrics strong write, vocals are strong clear and suit this genre to a T.

I agree with Floyd on the brightness, and I found it a bit busy instrument wise.

Your voice would have been more prominent with less going on, as you have a strong clear vocal so why bury it.

This is a constructive critique and I hope you take it as that.

Enjoyed this.

Thanks

What a tune! I really liked it - I enjoyed the groove, and it gave me a nice 90's rock vibe. Your vocals are definitely a standout and I thought there was some awesome progression. Loved the hook too.

Nicely done - thanks for sharing smile

Kenny,
Another tasteful, both metaphorically and literally tune.
Lyrics and production are excellent! Organ was a very good choice. Very cool guitar solo!

Thank you for sharing!

Misha.

Nice singing. I also hear a touch of Neil Young.

Memorable melody, good arrangement.

As usual, I enjoyed listening! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

They are among the best of the breed. And this is among the best songs I've heard anywhere in quite a while.

Thanks Floyd,

I never thought of Neil Young but Southern Girl/Southern Man...

i think the lyrics are a little corny and the vocal is so so

the vocal mix sounds good to me which says that I'm not hearing what you do

and now Beatmaster too

this is a problem that I've repeated too many times here

I'm gonna give some serious thought to just stopping.

Hey Robert,

that baritone is cool ain't it, I'll have to look up the style that it came from

it had that sound already set up.

thanks for the listen and kind words.

Hey Jim,

we do love that southern cooking don't we?

cornbread is so personal, everybody makes it a little different

love me some with honey in the mix, or cracklins, or jalapeños.

thanks for the kind words

Hey Beatmaster,

Thanks for the listen and kind words,

not offended but noooooooo!!!

let me indulge by piling on the tracks, I usually do sparse arrangements

I want this to sound like a train comin' thru

there are some dynamics with things dropping in and out

I noticed the Soundcloud visual looks almost maxed out all thru,

maybe it normalized (whut) when it also messed up my lead vocal!

thank you for the compliments

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
