How does this error appear? A pop up, a yellow message, or .. ?
Is there any other data shown about the error when t occurs?

I would hesitate to say RB doesn't like MME, I and many others use it regularly without issue.
It is likely a setting somewhere in your system on how Windows and RB cooperate while using your selected MME driver.

Which actual MME Driver is it?
I have usually found it beneficial to NOT use the Windows Sound Mapper driver (or Windows MIDI Mapper driver for that matter either) but rather the driver actually meant for use with the device being used for sound.
Do you have other options available in the Options-Preferences-Audio Tab-Drivers Button area?
Have you tried them as an alternative?

This sounds like a driver issue, and to be honest, an ASIO issue to me
MME doesn't usually generate these type of errors
Double check your drivers is my suggestion, both RB and Windows

We all research so for the new folks those are not mme drivers they are WDM drivers.PG knows this but has never changed the nomenclature.

I've seen that error when I have another music program open or sometimes even if I have a web browser open and it locks the audio settings on those programs.

Generic ASIO driver in play

Good chance there's a conflict there. I'm not qualified to interpret the error message, but when I scanned through it that driver stuck out to me as problematic for some ..

Hi
Yes indeed any of theses generic asio drivers like asio for all etc are in fact just jackets to make wm drivers etc to behave like asio. As such they only allow one use (instance), hence the dreaded driver in use message as you may be using windows media player or something else at the same time. Especially if you have more than one audio prog open at the same time.
Where possible use individual manufactures dedicated, asio drivers for your main task software and this will leave the wm & mme types free for other stuff that is running.
However note that even with the dedicated asio drivers there are very few that allow multiple instances of that driver simultaneously.
Mike
