ok opened the patch select dialogue a different way by double clicking and got the Hi Q option but all that happens is the BIAB yellow box appears top right and the playback is silent although I can see activity on the output meters.
the hi q patches are tgs files - why don't they laod when i select them?
Sforzando has a Band in a Box folder when I open it. Not sure if that's something I did or it did it somehow when I installed it.
But... You should be able to navigate to the folder and access the sounds that way.
On my system, the path is:
OS(C) > Program Files > PG Music Inc > Band-in-a-Box Sounds > Programs
There are folders for Bass, Drums, Guitar, Piano, Strings, Synth, Woodwind and World. These folders match my selections when I open the Band-in-a-Box Folder from Sforzando. The folder contains WAV and corresponding SFZ files.
before i do that - but thanks Charlie - choosing a Hi q patch seems to load ok from the dialogue I get double clicking the patch dialogue but the output port on the mixer changes to S1 which I can't find anywhere on the right hand side of the mixer
the output meters show output but there's no sound - any idea of where it's going? the edirol hypercanvas shows as the default synth but RB seems to be loading the sforzando somewhere it just doesn't show up on the vst dialogue and the S1 port is going somewhere where its not sounding
and the patch description doesn't change in the tracks window
ok got the sound by installing sforzando as the first plug in leaving the default synth as edirol. then loaded the tgs file as charlie suggested
but it seems over-complicated when there is an option to chooose a hi q patch from double clicking the patch dialogue. either the patch dialogue route doesn't work or i'm doing something worng. so although i've got sound i won't mark the trhead as resolved in case anyone has any extra advice
RB is a full blown DAW. Your problem is not setting the output ports. You can have 16 separate synths, one for up to 16 individual tracks or use one synth for 2 or 3 tracks another for however many other tracks, etc. If you just want to use one synth there is a box in the track window you click to make all tracks use the same synth.
I can't get it to work either. I get a yellow message box that it's trying to use Sample Tank. I never have used it before and don't find how to set it up in the manual.
Could S1 be the DXi Synth port #1 in the MIDI Ports? It may be a matter of directing the track to the correct Port via right-click options. You have 16 softsynth (DXi) port options available (these work for VSTi synths also, don't let the label confuse you). Assign a given track to a different Port and it will use whatever synth is assigned to that Port.

Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
If I load sfz to a track I don't get sound. If I open sfz and choose a patch I get sound. If I try to load a hq patch I get a yellow box that gives the path to sampletank. The hq patch doesn't load. I have all the patches in bb/dxi settings.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
