Does anybody know what year BiaB/Mac version 12 was released?

I'm revising my style picker disk information and that would be helpful to me and ultimately to my Mac customers.

Thanks,

Hey Bob,
Well my memory isn't what it used to be, but as far as I remember version 12 was the first version to run natively on Intel Macs.
That change happened in 2006.

So I checked the downloads page here in the support section, and it lists the last update for version 12 as released in Dec. of 2008.

So... if I was to make an educated guess, (since I remember running version 11 in OS9 classic mode for a while) I would say probably mid '07, or maybe even early '08.

Hopefully somebody from PG can chime in, but that's my best guess.

Thanks.

I wonder if anybody still uses that version. Probably not.

Song Picker Window installation changed after that version, and I'll make an installation package for it, but I'm thinking about making it for request only instead of putting it on my website.

Through the years I've had a couple of people download the wrong version of style picker software. I know it's sometimes hard to read thing on the screen, especially if you are multi-tasking it's an easy thing to click the wrong link.

10 years is forever in Internet time, but I don't want to leave anyone out.

Bob,

As stated earlier, best guess is 2008.

Quote:
This patch will update Band-in-a-Box® Version 12 to Build 31 from any previous build. It is not necessary to install previous update patches first. Please note that you must have Mac Band-in-a-Box® Version 12 (English language version) in order for this update to work.

This patch is a general maintenance release. It also updates a few styles, and adds support for the latest Styles Sets (to Styles Set 77), Soloist Sets (to Soloist Set 20), and Melodist Sets (to Melodist Set 8).

If you encounter a problem or have a concern with any of the features / functions of Band-in-a-Box®, do not hesitate to contact us. Updated December 19, 2008

Thanks again.

I seriously doubt anyone is still using a 2008 Mac for BiaB, but I'll have a style picker installation packet available on request. If in a year I get no requests, I'll know it will be safe to drop support for that old of a Mac.

I don't want to spend the extra resources on something that won't be needed, but on the other hand, I don't want to drop support for anyone buying my software.

I think your idea of posting a message on your website stating the patch is available is a great idea and is sufficient. But remember, no good deed goes unpunished! Don't be surprised at the number of responses created by the message!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
