Capital One Data Breach Applications from 2005 to now. Well that pretty much covers everybody doesn't it? Including me, I got a Cap One card in 2008. Just keep checking the balances on a daily basis and notify your bank or card company of ANYTHING that looks a bit off. Bob

If you have an online account to them you NEED to go in today and change your online password.
All of my important passwords include Uppercase, lowercase, numbers and special characters and are at least 12 characters long. I also change them every 60 days unless something like a breach happens and then I change that account that day.
And each account is different, no 2 have the same password.
If your account has a 3rd verification option like texting a number string to your phone that you also have to input, use it.
Like it or not, if you don't do these things, sooner or later you are going to get burnt.

My personal data has been hacked about 4 times now. None were my fault. Hackers got into the placed where I worked twice, a company where I used my charge card and a credit monitoring company! I locked all of the credit monitoring companies so no hacker can make large purchases that require a credit check. I also carefully monitor my only charge card.
I also do no on-line banking. I can only monitor my accounts on-line.
Good luck Bob.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Like it or not, if you don't do these things, sooner or later you are going to get burnt. I use a very similar password system. However the hackers go after the big companies like Capitol One so even using the best protection you can you can still get burned. You must be very vigilant these days.

Yes, I'm well aware of all those password tricks too but thanks for the suggestions, it's easy to forget some of those. The problem here and I've known this for years is with an insider. This girl who was arrested is a Systems Engineer who worked for Cap One. She knows exactly how to break in to the system and do this and that's where the problem lies. The best password in the world means nothing when someone like her simply steals all our data from the inside and sells it on the Dark Web.
As a tax guy I get emails from the IRS and Tax Pro type publications all the time about identity theft where a thief files a return in your name using hacked data like this. They fill in the W2 info and create a typical refund like 2-3K. Later when you go to file yourself, you get an efile error saying the return has already been filed. Now you have to contact the IRS and tell them you think you're the victim of ID theft and you have to go through hoops to show them what happened. At that point the fake return becomes their problem not yours and they will accept your actual return.
The easy solution to that is to get your return in first so as soon as you have your stuff together get that thing done and efiled whether you do it yourself or use a paid preparer. Then it's the thief who gets the efile error.

Well that stinks if she's a SysAdmin. It really hurts when someone 'inside' does this. It hurts every other honest/honorable company due to public perception.
I gotta assume they did background checks and all that (being a bank) ..
TBH, eventually, *someone* needs to be able to access the data from the back end. If for no other reason than when someone else has actually breached the system (to change passwords, block IPs, shut down acces, etc). You need to be able to trust these people. It's sad when someone casts a blemish on many through acts of their own.
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Well... soon they will have a little cup by computer that you would spit in, to verify your DNA before using funds Jokes aside, identity theft is disturbing. On that thought, if it was not mentioned before, Equifax just settled a breach suit deal (in July). You can follow the claim through ftc.gov site. They offer either $125 or 10 years of free monitoring or other options if you were exposed. There is also a tool to check if your info was a part of a breach.

Hearing about breaches like this definitely freaks me out a little bit. It's scary stuff.

Well, it appears it's not quite as bad as it first appeared. She is a Sys Admin but not directly for Cap One, she was with one of Amazon's cloud services that apparently stored the data for the bank which is still close enough. She's still an insider and this exposes cloud security that a lot of folks use. According to this article she's a bit of a nut case who actually posted about this on social media. She has personal issues, was supposedly suicidal and was not looking to sell this info but I'm sure there's more info to come. Here's a more in depth article from what sounds like an IT pro: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2019/07/capital-one-data-theft-impacts-106m-people/

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
