Hi Jim, I recently purchased the Jamstik Studio MIDI guitar here in the UK. After a few days with it I am afraid I returned it for a refund. The guitar is well made with plenty of features, unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectations. This thing cost me £999 GBP, nice as it was the guitar body / neck did not feel any better than a £200 Ibanez. In fact the action on the neck was dreadful.
Once you get in to the MIDI side things got very iffy. It did not recognise some strings properly when fretted. I never did sort out why it would not register an open bottom E, yet would register all frets above. Tuning is critical on these guitars which was tricky to do as you are doing it with an Allan key, not a machine head. When it worked it was fine, unfortunately when it worked fine was extremely hit and miss. Maybe if I had persevered for longer I may have got the thing to behave.
While the idea is very good I don’t think they have got it right just yet. I would be interested if anyone else has this guitar and how they are getting on with it.

I visit the +++ MIDI Guitar 2 +++ (Guitar audio to midi software program) forum since many people on that forum are interested in midi guitar controllers. There is an interesting thread about the JamStik, the new full size guitar, the Fishman Triple Play and the Roland system compare at converting audio to midi. The consensus is none are 100 percent accurate but the Fishman Triple Play is the best hardware system and MIDI Guitar 2 is the best software system. I was disappointed to see the full size guitar was still a 3/4 size travel guitar design. I really wish Casio and Yamaha would make midi guitar controllers again since both made full size midi controllers. I've always believed Line6 missed a golden opportunity with their Variax line of modeling guitars by not including a midi out port.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
