Hows this for Off Topic!

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10423985-56.html

Step 1: Right click.

Step 2: Click create folder.

Step 3: Name your new folder this, "GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}" and press enter.

Step 4: Blink as the folder changes form to look like the control panel.

Step 5: Open the folder and bask in all your godly, control panel-y power

I don't know about leaving that one lurking around in your system, though...

True. But that wouldn't be a problem once you closed the folder, right? Did you mean, by "lurking around", leaving the folder open?

Just remember. Where there's a GodMode there's going to be a SatanMode too.

Wow......I just love tweaks like this! Now if we could just find one to shrink the footprint of Win 7, I would be a happy man. I saw a post over at the gearsluts forum where a guy reported that at idle, his system was using 750 MB!! So I checked my system and sure enough I was using 728 mb at idle. We need a Win 7 lite!

Nah, everybody said the same thing about XP too. At the time millions of people were still running original pentiums with maybe 128mb ram. I was hot stuff for a while because I scored a pentium pro mobo and chip with 256mb ram. Barely enough juice for XP. Your machine now has 4gigs ram while mine is maxed out at 2. This is why the normal routine is new OS, new system. I could probably get Win 7 on my once superfast P4 2.8 but why? It's a dinosaur already at about 4 years old and I'll upgrade everything later this year. I even got fooled by not paying attention when I picked up a nice internal DVD burner last year but didn't notice it's sata. Of course my system is all ide and my once very fast 8x firewire external will do me for now. My mobo is already loaded up with stuff so back it went. You really have to forget the big stores and look to Ebay to find ide things anymore. Another clue it's time to upgrade.

Okay,
Here is a 'Senior Moment' for you.

I was reading about this earlier, and I wanted to try it out. I have several computers running Windows 7 64 bit RC, but I also have my main computer running Vista 64 Ultimate.

Guess which computer I was sitting at when I decided to try this out?

DO NOT TRY THIS ON VISTA 64bit!!! IT WILL CRASH YOUR SYSTEM BIG TIME!

I may be looking at a reformat and reinstall, I don't know. Right now, my Vista install is basically gone.

Don't be stupid like I was.

Gary

I think the links stated that it does not work on Vista 64 (but should on Vista 32).

And even with Windows 7, it recommends playing god on a test machine.

Aha! Vista! You found SatanMode Gary.

And you weren't stupid. You just didn't know that was going to happen. A mistake anybody could make with that many computers lying around the house.

No Russ, I WAS stupid. I wasn't thinking, I didn't go back and re-read all the stuff, and I just was thinking about it, and did it. I should have done it on a test machine, I should have done a lot of things that I didn't. And, eventually, it's going to cost me everything I have on the drive, because of ANOTHER mistake I made trying to repair it.

The apparent actual repair for this is fairly easy, but I didn't research that, either, I tried something different, and I've basically just wasted the drive. So, it's going to have to be a reformat and reinstall, something I really didn't want to do, but it is looking more and more like I'm going to have to.

Silly me, that'll teach me to THINK.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
