I am just curious if anyone has used a little netbook computer (different from a notebook computer)with BIAB, Realtracks, or other programs. A coworker got one and they are so adorable. I realize there are certain limitations like a limited size hard drive and ram, but was wondering how effeciently they function as a portable daw. The processors in these things is called an Atom processor. I do not know how this processor compares to a pentium, pentium 2, dual-pentium, super-duper pentium etc.

Thanks

I just got an ASUS for travel. It only has 1gb ram. The Hd is 250gb, but I wouldn't use it for my music stuff. It came with a win 7 shell which is fine for what I use the netbook for. I don't look at it as an all purpose machine, but it's fine for email and downloading pics from your camera. I'm sure there are folks out there using them for word processing or whatever. I didn't do well with the mouse pad so bought an external mouse. The keyboard is pretty small for me to type on. FWIW

Kristen, yes, I have a Toshiba N250 netbook. It has Windows XP, and I loaded BIAB 2009.5 on it with no problem. I put a few Real Tracks so I can write in a couple of styles if the muse strikes. I mainly take it on trips and use it for the Internet, but it runs BIAB just fine. It's far more powerful than the older 2003 Toshiba full-sized laptop I used to use. The main drawback is the screen size, to see the chordsheet.

BIAB 2024 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 6.5 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6; Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Roland Integra-7, Presonus Studio 192, Presonus Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors

I have used an Acer Aspire with XP with sucess, running band in a box from the external hard drive....Not the fastest at rendering Realtracks but it works fine. Even all Realtracks songs play fine, no stuttering, using the Dxi Synth.

kristen.
just a personal observation.
1. here sometimes there isnt a huge price diff tween the likkle atoms
and the dual core amd lappies. sometimes 130 buks.
2. what is interesting bout the atom mini laps from my testing are they dont seem to be as bad
running the dpc utility as some of the more expensive lappies.
many of which are pretty bad. still red spikes but not as bad.
3. no inside info , but i suspect intel has plans for the likkle atom
to make it more powerfull. might be worth waiting a bit for the super atom
multi core. cos manufacturers are trying to make lappies more powerfull
n less expensive.
kristen if you want a no brainer lappie..
but expensive talk to these folks sometime.
www.adkproaudio.com turnkey audio lappies
as used by touring acts etc etc. check out the quad core lappie..lol.
they build custom laptops for audio production.
well respected etc etc .

retired puter engr....powertracks on amd......NICE !

Thanks. I was just curious if anyone had success with them. i do have a notebook now ( a macbook which runs mac and xp quite well), but was just so amazed at how little and light those things were. I will see what the future brings with those atom processors.

Advantages:
1. Fits in the pockets of some of my bigger jackets (well I mean like a tweed sports coat..(; ) . It fits in my wife's purse.

Right now I'm at a hotel with free wireless and stuck it in my camera bag.

I have a small backpack I use sometimes and it fits that along with the camera if I'm trying to discrete.

I have a big sony that used to be a laptop/ portable and there are always issues with the size. Using firefox and ctl+ to increase the font size makes websites readable.

I have Open Office on it, and use Google Documents to store things.

I hear the latest ones come with Windows 7, if I didn't use it at all for band in a box I'd get a linux one.....

I have a little Acer Aspire netbook running XP, and the past few days, I've been sitting around in bed or at my local coffee shop, with earbuds in, writing new songs with BiaB.

As a portable songwriting and composing tool, I absolutely love it!

And being a software developer, I really appreciate how the core program doesn't suffer from bloat and inefficiency, making it POSSIBLE to run such a rich app on such a little computer. Well done!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
