Is anyone using the newer Ketron SD1000 with RealBand? If so, how do you access the banks? I don't see an ini file in the Patch Map data in the PG Music Support pages. I've used the SD2 and had no problems, as the PAT file and ini file are posted in Support for the SD2, but there is no ini file posted for the SD1000. Not sure how to create one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Never mind......I found the answer.

I suggest that you can use the SD2 ini file as model and to adapt it to fit with the SD1000 module. Just click on patches.ini file and edit it.
In the SD1000 documentation manual, you will find all the A, B, C & D banks descriptions.

Thanks for the response. I found an SD1000 PAT file in the Support section of PG Music website. I also read there is a way to convert a .PAT file to .ini under the Action tab in Realband and Powertracks. Do you think that would work as well?

Yes
But the link may have moved depending on your version.

Menus change over time but the feature is there.

Hello,

I am using the SD2 and it works very well...
Can you report about the SD 1000?
Since more "modern" does it really make a difference with the SD2??

Bernard,

I don't have it yet. It is in the mail. I used the SD2 and switched to the SD4, as I was able to use a MIDI guitar with the SD4. I've since sold the MIDI guitar, so I thought I would "upgrade" to the SD1000. I'll let you know how it goes.

I also have the SD4 for sale if anyone is interested. I think Ketron products are very good.

OK, I will wait patiently!
In the meantime, please tell me how the SD4 is, compared to the SD2. I do not think I could buy yours from Germany (lot of problems with the customs...)but I may find a "used" one here
in Germany.

Bernard,

The SD4 is like having 2 SD2s, and I used one side with a Godin MIDI guitar connected to a Roland GI-20 (no longer made) and then to the SD4. The other side was connected to Realband. Nice thing was to be able to change the MIDI guitar patches directly from the buttons on the SD4. I didn't really notice much of a sound quality difference between the SD2 and the SD4. I'm told the SD1000 is an "upgrade" to the SD2, and I'll have to check that out when I receive it.

Bernard,

I received the Ketron SD1000 on Saturday. I revised the RealBand ini file with the four new banks on the SD1000, and it worked perfectly in RealBand. Now for the good news....it is an improvement from the SD2, no question. I really like the new piano voices that are available, and they sound terrific with RealBand MIDI Super Track pianos. The unit itself looks like the SD2, just a little nicer design. Ketron makes very nice products. As you know the SD2 is also very good, but the SD1000 is just better. Is it necessary to own? No, but it is an improvement over the SD2. Hope this helps.

Actually, given the small price difference of $60.00, the SD1000 is way better. Current US pricing from the Ketron distributor is $450 vs. $390. Added sound bank, many upgraded sounds, easy decision to make for a 15% price diff. Especially with the new piano sounds.

I will try and have a listening to the new Ketron here in Germany...
Are there more sounds altogether as in the SD2?

Yes, more sounds and one more bank of sounds. If you get a chance to hear the extra piano sounds, for example, I think you may like the SD1000 more than the SD2.......Rick.

Not trying to throw cold water on this (A LOT of users here love their Ketron modules) but

If you plan to buy SD-1000 (over SD2) and use with other MIDI HW gear (e.g, keyboard controller using the 5-pin DIN MIDI connection and NOT USB) be aware that the SD-1000 has active sensing and this has been causing some issues.

Ketron is supposedly aware of it and I assume are working on a firmware update to correct, may be already be a fait accompli.

Larry, maybe the problem was fixed, as I don't seem to have any issues with the unit.

Hi! How I can connect gi 20 with ketron sd 1000?
I have a komplete audio and Cubase with windows 10.
The thing is, I have the Gi 20 connected with a midi usb cable, midi out to midi in to ketron, and usb to the pc. And the ketron's rca output to the soundcard's line in
Play Ketron with a keyboard is not a problem at all.
I have activated monitoring speakers on komplete audio, and all settings are right with a keyboard. With gi 20 and ketron, I only have midi signal but not sound. Any help? Thank you!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
