Hi forum friends. Kind of a typical goofy, romantic love song. For 5 years or more in the early 90's, I listened all the time to Michael Franks. I just loved his mellow, sweet, romantic songs. That type of music has always stuck with me, despite all the cynical, sarcastic, and depressing stuff I frequently write (still love that stuff too!). I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Take care all. Greg

The lights on the hill
The music from not so far away
But far enough still
Not to get in the way

The tropical breeze
That comes at the perfect moments
And tickles the trees
Oh, it seems heaven sent

I'm here with you in this cherished moment
No future and no past
Is there a way to make the moment last?

That first taste of rum
That hint of a smile reminds me
Of pleasures to come
In the night that will be

But this warm afternoon
I hope this sublime perfection
Won't end to soon
For time, it goes just one direction

I'm here with you...

Greg

Always liked Michael Franks whispery vocals and light jazz arrangements. You take it up a notch because of your truly excellent vocals.
Lovely song, pretty melody and as anticipated a superb vocal.

Really nice work.

Like everything about this song - arrangement, lyrics, vocals - nothing strained, everything flowing with such perfect ease. Great job!

Smooth and lovely Greg.
The ch, t and related sounds seem to work with the reverb to make an aggressive sibilant sound.
The esses aren't too bad at all but the ch/t could use a little taming.
Sounds great over all.

Cheers

Gorgeous vocals with standout harmony.

Cool lyric and the perfect backing tracks for it.

The production invites many pastoral images.

Janice said it reminds her of our visit last week to a favorite B&B and sitting on the
front porch with a lovely mountain scene...and wanting to make it last.

Superb!

I'm a big Michael Franks fan (and a Greg Johnson fan, for that matter).

I've always thought that these sorts of songs - light and airy like a delicate pastry - were always the hardest to write.

This is mellow and smooth - it nails the Franks feel, and lingers like a soft perfume. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Interestingly starts without a real intro, straight into the mellow paradise feeling.
"The tropical breeze
That comes at the perfect moments
And tickles the trees
Oh, it seems heaven sent"
describes this song perfectly, heaven sent. Superb arrangement, chord progression is perfect. And your voice is more sublime than ever, reminds me lot of George Michael on his Older album. I would definitely like to hear more romantic songs like this, please smile

Really nicely done - it has a really warm atmosphere to it, and your vocals are stunning on this smile It is really gentle, and easy to take, and sounds like it comes from a sincere place. It is just so soft, delicate, and velvety - I enjoyed my listen thoroughly.

Thanks for sharing!

Greg,
One of the more sublme songs and vocals I`ve heard on this forum. Perfect progression and as pretty a melody as you`d expect for smooth jazzy pop.
Your vocals are alwaysa standout- here you capture the relaxed breathy feeling wonderfully.
Those harmonies moving across the soundstage are also nicely done.

Hi Greg,

that's a really nice and appealing love song. Your singing is, no doubt about that, top-notch, and the composition is great. Love the chord progression at "no future and no past" - pretty unexpected at that position but marvellously working. Great backing track.

All in all a really professional production one wouldn't be surprised to hear on the radio - very, very enjoyable !!!!

Take care,

Stefan

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
