Don't Wake Up The Monster Sometimes it is very difficult to find a suitable style for a song. I made the original version of this song in 2017, it was a rock-oriented arrangement, but it never felt right, something was missing, some excitement perhaps. Luckily I have BIAB, it is so easy to test different styles and instruments that you get lost in all the possibilities So after having fun with different choices, from the tens of alternatives, I came up with this more bluesy arrangement. Although I still feel that it is not perfect yet, I think it is more interesting with instruments creating monster habitat-like atmosphere. I'm open to any suggestions, what you think would be a good style or instrument for this song In the original version, I was experimenting by singing a counter-melody for the one which Miira is singing, but it didn't work well, so here I'm singing only the main melody in the chorus. Maybe I'll try with the counter-melody idea again later. RealDrums: BossaLewis1, DjembeKeitaEv8, CongaEv16 Loop: Thunder_Storm 2 RealTracks: Acoustic bass #711 Acoustic piano #887 Electric piano #2194 Tuba #1792 Cello #3267 Vibes #1215 HornSection #2346 Electric guitars #2904, #2826 Electric guitar solo #3201 (built with multiriff) Vocals: Miira & Janne Mixed in Cakewalk by Bandlab Lyrics: Move silently, sneak, watch your step don't cross the line between virtue and vice don't take risks, don't be venturesome if you can't pay the price. We don't have the willpower to harness the roaring might we are not prepared to see the beast alight when it's hard to say no to the thrills of the night just don't wake up the monster until the time is right. Speak quietly, don't test your luck with the 'loudest whisper ever' paradox even the passion in our words can open Pandora's box. [Chorus] Danger lurked in the wilderness outside the safe and decent track when we took a step on the foul path we knew there wasn't coming back. [Solo] Too much too soon, not once a tiny pet we should have raised it in a sheltered nest before we opened the gates of bliss where it’s now a savage guest. -------------- Janne

Petty mysterious lyrics & melody... I have no clue what you are trying to say... But as I listened more than once... All sorts of possibilities came to mine... But thats what make many songs memorable. Good job on this one... I enjoyed the listens.

Very Bjork-like, and not just for the vox. Well done.

janne, Sounds like a parable to me- I like the " beast" image that can be interpreted in several ways. Good to hear Mira sing again -she reminds me of Natalie Merchant here. If this were mine I might play around with some jungle/animal sounds in one or two places. Your songs are original and always interesting.

Miira does a grand job - including the harmony section. Your vocal, Janne, would be served by some tighter timing but that's all I think. Oh, the thunderstorm was rather quiet in the beginning: with my tinnitus masking some of it the storm registered as hiss or noise rather that a tempest.

Robert We thought parable and then read how nicely Robert had already stated it. Nice mix of the fine vocals and that really effective choice of RTs...very interesting. Enjoyed the spin! J&B

I think the more bluesy arrangement definitely really works here! Great job.

Thanks Jim for your nice comment I thought the message was simple, but of course it's interesting if people find different interpretations. And it's good to hear that you have no clue, because I hope you have enjoyed solving the mystery Janne

Thanks for your nice comment I'm glad you mentioned Bjork, I was thinking of Tom Waits and his experimental arrangements when adding instruments like tuba, but Bjork has also made very interesting arrangements. Maybe I'll get further ideas from her works. Janne

Wow - what a tune! Really unique, and someone else mentioned a comparison to Bjork which I actually agree with. It flows really well and I found it really attention grabbing. Really nice work on the mix too! Thanks for sharing

Robert Thanks Robert, your feedback is really awarding Parable - I hadn't thought of that, but yes, you can say that. I guess we all might find some untamed monsters in our lives. Thanks for mentioning Natalie Merchant, I hadn't listened to her before. I thought of adding jungle & animal roars but I didn't have any, no jungle or lions here in Finland Hopefully there will be dangerous animal sounds in the next release of BIAB Janne

Oh, the thunderstorm was rather quiet in the beginning: with my tinnitus masking some of it the storm registered as hiss or noise rather that a tempest. Thanks Ray for your kind comment Yep, Miira did an excellent work here. I have Melodyne and I could have made my timing better with it, but I thought that some imperfections are not a bad thing. You are right about the thunderstorm, it was bit difficult to handle because the rain was like noise on lower level, but without it the thunder would have been bit boring. Let's see if I find a better sample for the next version. Janne

Misha. Thanks Misha for your great feedback Nice to hear that you think its one my best, it's difficult to know beforehand what works in other people's minds. And with this song, although I like it, I have felt that something is still missing. But based on your words, the song is quite close to its true 'ideal'. Janne

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
