So this is an old song....I wrote this around 1991-92. The original demo on it was pretty bad, so I decided to re-do it with BIAB. It has been recorded a few times, so it's a "tweener" in that it's a cover/not a cover, since I'm the writer.

The basic track is the country 12/8 ballad w/pedal steel, but I replaced/added a few things (jazz piano, jazz string pads, jazz piano & guitar solos). Vocals added & mixed in Logic Pro X.

We Must Be Loving Right

For anyone interested, here's links to a couple of the recordings of the song.

Good "tweener" Roger smile...
GS' version seems closer to your rendition...
But I also liked the GS' rendition...
Congratulations for your success with placing of this song!

Hi Roger, I really enjoyed the overall tone of this. Excellent mixdown on all of this and the instruments are layered nicely. Well done!

WOW! what a simply gorgeous song! It's obvious why you got those superstar cuts on it! I actually like your version best it's got the songwriter soul magic dust in your phrasing and the arrangement. Of course both of the real records you linked to are great.

My jaw is still on the floor so if I blabber on forgive me. I've been on this forum since 2008 - unfortunately not on here as much as I used to be. Anyway, it's quite the thrill to have our forum graced by a songwriter who actually had superstar cuts - something so many of us here aspired to and didn't quite make it. So here's a belated welcome to the showcase! I'm looking forward to hearing more of your songs and so glad you're having fun with BIAB. It's quite addictive. Just like a great song. grin

Hi Roger,

everything great about this song - you sing it so ... mellow, very, very nice and convincing.

The backing track is great - I think you picked the right add-on tracks. Sometimes it's astounding how realtracks of quite different genres go together so well. But I think trying some out is alwys worth the while - it definitely paid off with this song..

Very professional, very soulful, very enjoyable !

Cheers,

Stefan

Nicely done smile I enjoyed the progressions here and found it to be a nice, relaxing listen. It has a sincerity to it, and the mixdown is stunning as well. Really high quality and professional.

Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful simple melody. Lovely chord progression and those jazz instruments make it really enjoyable. Vocals sit well in the mix.

Roger

Enjoyed comparing the versions (including the Johnny Mathis one).
Impressive how yours (and BIAB) holds it's own with the others.

Beautiful song Roger!! When I heard your first post, I thought "Here's a guy who knows what he's doing". No idea you had that level of success. Congrats on a great song and hitting it big with some great stars! Take care. Greg

Roger - you've made cool country jazz!
All is sweet & lush.
the very 1st syllable of your vocal has an aggressive crack and there are a few other milder instances in the song - you could tame them by using a faster setting on your compressor or by putting a bit of a slope on the front of the syllable with volume automation.
This reminded me of Ray Charles' Modern Sounds of Country & Western album.
Nice work.

Cheers

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
