I am very grateful to Bud for alerting us to this site and that other sites like it exist.

Bud likely is correct that my online course files were posted public instead of private as I intended.

I still say the rip-off site's interface looks better than SoundCloud's interface. SoundCloud's pages are too cluttered with ads for music I'll never listen to.

Well I went there and my stuff is there also, hhhmmmm seems I’m more famous than I thought. LOL http://syloken.com/mp3/RobHelms/

Pretty weird how someone can do something like this. I wonder how they get revenue from the site. Ads?

I wonder how many people care about downloads anyway these days?

Back 10-15 years ago when MP3 players were popular it was a big deal, but these days don't most people just stream the music they want to listen to?

Hi all
Interesting topic.

But I am not to surprised anyone can rip a stream once its playing you can re record it.
As far as pictures go also no prob, in most all browsers just right click on the pic and download Image , try it on my avatar here.
No fancy software or anything required. The moment you give someone a link any one can do all this that has the link. Or the if file is public shareable.
There are plenty of ways to sound cloud and others. This forums user showcase is a goldmine of songs and art work. In this case you can rip the art work with a simple screen capture.

While this discovery is indeed disturbing, it doesn't make sense that they would be doing this without being able to make any money from the music that's available for download on their website. I suspect that they are probably using Audials One, which is a program that can be set up to automatically record five different streams of songs at a time from online radio stations as well as from Spotify and Youtube. I've owned a copy for years but have mostly used it to find and listen to various online radio stations from all over the world. It's a very powerful program that can also record streaming video. It has been consistently been voted the best program of its kind for years. Here's the link to their website:

https://audials.com/en/one/what_is_new_2019.html

Or, just search for Audials One and read some of the articles at the links from the search results.

I doubt S.cloud will or can do anything about this...

But I believe Google can... at least remove it from their search engine.

Contacting Google is only one of the steps needed to stop this. The best thing to do is to contact the host of the website and ask them to take down the website because of copyright infringement. IOW, none of you gave them permission to post your music on their website, so what they're doing is simply illegal. Any honest web host will quickly comply with your request, unless the person doing this is also their own web host. If that's the case, informing search engines about the site's violation of copyright laws would result in their site being removed from search results. The following article is just one of many that goes into extensive detail about all the steps that can be taken to deal with such websites:

A simple DMCA has worked numerous times for me.
https://www.upcounsel.com/dmca-claim

You can do this on your own (no lawyer needed) in my experience.
https://www.ipwatchdog.com/2009/07/06/sample-dmca-take-down-letter/id=4501/
Hosting companies do not want lawsuits; they eat the profits and cost customers ..
"The DMCA says that, while an Internet Service Provider (ISP) is not liable for displaying information that infringes a copyright, the ISP needs to remove the material from their users' websites if they receive proper notice. "
In my experience they usually ask the site owner to cease, and if not met, they just take the site down. The onus is on the owner; the ISP won't edit the site, not their job or responsibility.

To find the domain owner is a simple Whois
https://www.whois.com/whois/syloken.com

To find the hosting company is a little trickier, but we know they use Cloudflare nameservers and NameCheap, Inc. for the domain registry (whois exposes that), so Namecheap has billing info, meaning reliable contact. <grin>

Pinging the website reveals the IP and finding the owner of said IP shows the Host, which is also Cloudflare.

Hope that helps anyone that wants to follow through on a complaint. wink
A DMCA filed with Cloudflare would start to make the site owners wiggle fairly quickly.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
