Hi forum friends. Been listening to a lot of great music on here lately! This is another Michael Franks style attempt at a romantic tune. I love Latin music! I was pretty blown away how well Brent's solo fit the tune.......I slipped him a few extra bucks! Anyway, I would love to hear what you think! Take care. Greg

WHEN SHE TALKS TO ME

When she talks to me, I'm intoxicated by the sound
And suddenly, there's no one else around
I drift off in a pleasant daze
To swaying palms and blue sky bays
I don't know what to say
When she talks to me

When I see her smile, and hear the music of her voice
(She has no intention to beguile; she doesn't have a choice)
I'm a silent fool, just mesmerized
As I float inside her warm brown eyes
I start to fantasize
When I see her smile

It's a mystery
Is it magic, is it alchemy?
It's like a chemical reaction in my soul
Wires cross and currents flow
I'm dizzy cause she moves me so
I spin out of control
When she talks to me

When she talks to me...

(She has no intention to beguile; she doesn't have a choice) Oh yeah.

Just stunningly beautiful how that Latin rhythm, your fragile yet powerful vocal range, melody, lyric and perfect phrasing come together to express love. Loved it.

Really, really nice - vocals, instrumentation, lyrics, mix...

All top notch.

But especially the vocals. You can really sing! laugh

My only nit is the flute solo at the end - it sounds "fake", mostly because it lacks vibrato.

If you're interested, PM me and I'll be happy to render you some of my VSTi flutes so you can complain about my choice in flutes. grin (My actual flute playing isn't anything to write home about).

Anyway, love this song! laugh

Wonderful!

I love latin music too, and man, you just nailed the vibe perfectly with this one, Greg!

Love the melody and of course the vocal, and you are right, that guitar solo is perfect.

Enjoyed!

Hi Greg,

What a really wonderful listen. You sure have the knack for fine songwriting and equally fine song-presenting! It's as it your gently soothing vocals caress the listener's emotions and imagination and they fit hand-in-glove with this Latin-styled backing. I don't think you could have chosen a better instrumental ensemble.

From the first note to the last, I found this enchanting, mesmerising and terrific listening.

All the best,
Noel

Greg,

ZOWIE!

I don't know what to say when you "talk" to me! Completely blown away.

GORGEOUS songwriting.
GORGEOUS production.
GORGEOUS vocal.

The nylon guitar solo is extraordinary! Sounds like you had someone play specifically for this.

A beautiful mix.

One of your best. And THAT is saying something!! (ALL you songs are excellent).

YOU should be a star, dude.

Nicely done! The Latin touch was incredible, and your vocals and the instruments are both stunning. It's an absolutely beautiful tune, and a fine example of quality songwriting. It is tender, romantic, and gorgeously textures.

You should be really proud of this one - thanks for sharing smile

There are a good number of fine vocalists on this board, but your voice is my favorite. Excellent lyrics. I teach my students the importance of good beginnings (essays and stories). The same holds true for songs. What an engaging opening lyric:

When she talks to me
I'm intoxicated by the sound
And suddenly,
there's no one else around

Good stuff!

Hello Greg,

this is just wonderful - you're creating such a great mood.

The composition and the arrangement are already top-notch, but your vocals hit the ball over the fence - EXCELLENT !!!!

Take care,

Greg,
Stellar vocals that show a great feel for the rhythm of your well written, seductive song.
Amazing guitar track,as you say.I tend to agree a more organic sounding flute would be nice, but that`s very minor- you are into a great groove with this style of music!

Well it's early and on the first page but all the superlatives have already been grabbed. Seriously.

Mr.Johnson has exited the stage now who the heck wants to follow that?

OK, we'll add a word SOPHISTICATED.

Very cool tune Greg. Loved the way you mixed the vocal on this song. Loved the backtrack and choice instruments. This song really showed off your range. Such a cool vocal. Well done Greg.

The superb chording and beautiful melody work amazingly well together.
Flute melody on the background is nice addition. Lyrics are sweetly romantic, like a perfect movie experience. And your voice is the final strawberry icing on the cake. I would like to hear a whole album full of these treats smile

Different flutes for different occasions. wink

For this song, you might have a look at the free Simple Flute from Fluffy Audio.

Embertone has an inexpensive ($20) Crystal Flute that might work well here.

Or you could just send me the MIDI track, and I'll see if anything in my library matches up well to it.

But the Fluffy Simple Flute is probably more than adequate.

Mr. Johnson...

I regard the 'bossa nova' genre as one of the greatest gifts of music ever introduced into the world we live in. It combines a sense of deep romantic intimacy with a strange but intriguing melancholy feel in a way that makes the experience of listening to it simply mesmerising, and timeless.

Those qualities are immediately, undeniably present in your recording of When She Talks to Me. Your Real Tracks and/or MIDI selections from BIAB establish a sensuous mood right from the first note. Your singing -- including the barely-heard breaths you take between the words and phrases of your lyrics -- is as smooth, as softly expressive, and as tender as can be. If our nocturnal dreams of love were accompanied by music, this is what they would sound like.

I thoroughly enjoyed your performance.

Hello Greg ...

This evening is the first opportunity I've had to spend more than a few minutes on the forum. And WOW!!!!!!!!!!

Latin Jazz is one of our very favorite genres and it rarely, if ever, sounds any better than this gorgeous song. Your voice reminds me of a butterfly drifting with a gentle breeze, carrying a sweet and wonderful message as it passes by. This is so cozy and warm. I am totally envious of your vocals and composition skills. I truly believe you have the truest and most pleasant voice of anyone on the forum. And that's not to slight any of the others as they are amazing too. But you have a special touch with your vocals.

Loved this so much. Wishing you & yours all the very best ...

Alan

Honestly well sung and recorded it was studio pro. Or damn near what we get.

Just a beautiful sounding song.

Greg,

Very nice! Wonderful!
And the great chord progression!
The use of the m7(b5) chord that appears frequently is particularly sophisticated.
Your vocals perfectly fit to this song.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Greg, do you ever do a bad song? I don't think so.

Your vocal range is incredible in this one. Silky smooth, and so well done!

Love it!

Hi Greg - thanks a lot for your comment on my CD tunes ("By The Way"), I didn't spot your post at first but did reply on Sept 27th! This was my reply:

"Greg - thanks a lot for having a listen and for your comments, all original tunes recorded mixed & mastered by yours truly in Logic Pro X on MacBook Pro i7 - I have no experience or particular knowledge or skills in audio engineering, I do everything by feel and by ear!
Cheers all, Carl"

I also commented on your "When She Talks To Me": "Hi Greg, this is beautiful - your voice really suits the latin style, great song!! Best, Carl"

Very nice chord sequence Greg, well done!! Carl

Hello Greg,

I enjoyed your song very much. It brings back old memories and thoughts, that kind of song!
But in this great performance you showed us, I also admire how high you can sing without ending in strange noises (or have you cut them away in the mixing-proces(?)
That is -by the way- NOT inspiring as Misha wrote, because I can't reach that altitude.
So very nice work, Greg

Nice day,
Hans

Greg, you have a wildly developed sense of melody and the smooth soft vocal timbre is perfect for this genre. The gut string guitar was an incredibly beautiful fit. Brother your vocal talent is nothing short of stunning. And what a write! I think I had a chemical reaction just listening to the rhythm of the words falling into each other and the genius of the rhymes. Production top notch. Great write and another incredible vocal. Keep doin what you do, Tom

GORGEOUS vocal.

The nylon guitar solo is extraordinary! Sounds like you had someone play specifically for this.

A beautiful mix.

One of your best. And THAT is saying something!! (ALL you songs are excellent).

YOU should be a star, dude.

I couldn't say it any better than Floyd did. This is the genre I like to listen to in a lounge setting. Just sitting there, drinking a beer and listening to the band.

You nailed this one!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
