What’s +++ Mix The Music +++ ? Mix The Music is a new online store specializing in multitrack audio files that allows producers, mix engineers, musicians, and… well, anyone to legally download, listen to, and re-mix songs using the original multitracks as recorded by major artists and film/game composers. How do I open up these multitracks and begin exploring?Our files use the new .multitrack audio format developed by PreSonus Software Ltd., and as such are available to be opened and processed exclusively in PreSonus Studio One 4—Prime, Artist, and Professional editions. Mix The Music makes it easy and secure to access this never-before-available content—and now any Studio One user can listen to, explore, mix, and remix multitracks from major label artists! What If I Do Not Own Studio One? As Mix The Music supports the free version - Studio One Prime, just download and install Studio One Prime and away you go. What labels/entities are participating in Mix The Music?Major label tracks from Universal Music Group, Sony, Paramount, EA, and more are now available in a new .multitrack format containing the original stems. There are many more tracks on the way from dozens of labels and artists, the store is expected to grow rapidly.

MixTheMusic sounds awesome, until you get to FAQ #4 and learn that whatever you create, you cannot share in any form.Can I use the individual tracks in a multitrack in my own music?
You can create your own content using multitrack content downloaded from Mix The Music, however that content cannot be posted or shared publicly. What?? Yeah, there's no way to export your project to an audio file, or to stream it. The only way to legally share your remix of one of their multitracks is by playing it for someone in the same room with you. Now, I cannot imagine going to their store and paying $10 for a multitrack that I might have a lot of fun with but can never use to create more music. I am surprised there is a market for something like this at all, but I guess there is! Has anyone in BandLand tried this service?

Made for novice to professional musicians and mix engineers alike. The site also has a songwriting, remix and mastering challenge. All of this is free. They are also looking for song tracks to use in the Mix Challenge.

I joined the forum to learn about mixing. I've made a few forum comments but mostly lurk. Many of the people are pros so the comments are illuminating.

If someone wanted to do a cover of one of these songs and got a mechanical license this would be a cool resource to take a look at how the original was put together.
The other thing that would be cool to me would be to listen to the raw vocal tracks and look at the FX's/mixing used.
I may put this on my to-do list. I would be glad to pay 10 bucks for a set of original stems from some artist I was interested in. I assume the artist is getting some of that money which is cool.
I use Studio One 5.4.0.66465 every day. What I went to after Sonar tanked.

I’m just a desktop noodler, though, and the “security” limitations would drive me crazy.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first?
