Hi all,

just wanted to mention the album I produced and published now: THE HEROINE´S JOURNEY. It was made (nearly) purely with BIAB and the Synthesizer V vocaloid software, plus Reaper for DAW. The singer is Eleanor Forte, one of the soundbanks of SynthV. Seemingly I am one of the few persons using this technology not for high-pitched mangastyle K-pop, but for oldschool rockpopblues stuff.

I did the whole thing completely alone, incl. lyrics, songs, arrangement, sequencing, artwork, and global distribution. Normal bedroomproducer doings, but actually I am no musician at all ;-)) This is part of my scientific research about global value chain creation in the digital era, a kind of self-experiment. Background info (German only, sorry): http://armin-pfannenschwarz.de/music/

Thanks for BIAB, PG Music. It´s really an amazing piece of software!!

The album at Spotify:

(all other major music streaming platforms should also list the songs, thanks to Amuse.io - just look for Prof P feat. Eleanor Forte or THE HEROINE´S JOURNEY)

Official Music Videos on Youtube (playlist):

Happy grooving!

Hi Armin,

I just had a listen to a couple of tracks on Youtube. Very impressive!

You've done a great job.

Prof,

I sampled all the song on the album. They ALL sound good. Interesting melodies. A wide range of styles.

Well mixed.

"...but actually I am no musician at all" - That is hard to believe considering how the whole thing sounds. It would be interesting to know if you used BIAB STYLES exactly as they are presented or if you swapped out instruments and added other RealTracks.

Interesting concept.

This is really interesting. I had a quick look through your website as well, it looks like you've put a lot of work in to get to this point. And I imagine synth vocals must present a lot of challenges!

I enjoyed Breaking Free and Waiting For Eruption. I've just found the whole album on Apple Music and I'm going to give it a listen because I do find the synth vocals aspect interesting. One point I have is that I did find the vocals hard to hear so I don't quite know what the lyrics are, I'm not sure if that was a stylistic choice.

Actually on Apple Music the vocals are loud and clear. It may have just been an issue with YouTube on my phone.

Hi Floyd,

thanks! With "no musician" I meant I cannot play any instrument (besides a little drumming), nor sing, nor do I have a really profound knowledge about music theory or chord progressions etc.

That´s the interesting point on a sociological level: the digitalization (of music in this case) opens new spaces for human creativity, not neccessarily based on craftsmenship any longer. Up to now you had to learn some instrument for some years before you have been able to create music. But with the "WYHIWYG"-concept of software like BIAB (what you hear is what you get) the game changes.

I think the whole sampling/rap scene works similarely, but I´m not really into that.

And yes, I changed some of the instruments within a style. Or mainly I added some. "More" uses four guitar tracks.

I admire your work with the tools. This is pure musical democracy, from the bedroom to the listeners around the world. BIAB is a great tool to easily convert simple ideas to excellent background. I have used Vocaloids before and I started putting out my songs with BIAB+Vocaloid combination 12 years ago, so I know it is a good way to start.

I hadn't heard about the SynthV before. Seems to be even better technology than Yamaha's, Eleanor Forte sound very clear and you have done excellent work with her.

Your songs are enjoyable pop music, easy to listen but still showing your personal style and creativity. You have used BIAB very well, backing sound like a real band, not a standard BIAB style. The Hardest Enemy and New Life were the highlights for me. Good luck with your future songs.

Janne

Armin,

Interesting concept. Even as you said, it was an self-experiment... it sounds better to me than a lot of stuff played on Radio these days. Great job in producing these tunes!
Thank you for sharing this project!

As a user of Yamaha Vocaloid, I appreciate your "experiment". I'll need to check out Eleanor Forte and any other sound-banks for Synth V. I didn't listen to all the songs yet, but those that I did are very well arranged, produced, and mixed. Well done.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
