I have a MIDI file that I've deleted all tracks in except the melody track. I then added back RealTracks as needed. The original MIDI file had CC's commands, specifically CC7 for volume. Since I've added RealTracks on all other tracks, the CC7's are not a problem except on the melody track which is way too loud.
I've tried the MIDI Monitor and can see the CC7 settings on the melody track but the MIDI Monitor does not allow you to edit the data, only monitor it (guess it's name says it all!).
I know I can take the song into RealBand and make the changes there but then the song would be saved as a SEQ file. Is there a way to stay in BIAB, edit MIDI data and save the song as a MGU file?
Although there is no Event List editor like in Realband that I found, you may be able to edit what you need in the Piano Roll editor in BIAB. There's a View/Edit button there where you can choose:
Velocity Control Program ChnAfter Pitch Bend
By default, the MIDI velocities show up on the bottom. I assume when you choose one of the other choices that the data would also be on the bottom.
Been there and have, at one time, managed to find a workable solution.
Go to the Windows/Piano roll and select the melody.
Now you can monitor AND change the volume of each individual note or top off some of the harsher notes. Underneath the piano roll, you’ll see vertical velocity lines. Approaching them with the mouse pointer changes your arrow into an ... erm...arrow, but of a different kind. You can use this arrow to slash high volume notes or to raise silent ones.
Use the minus buttons right and right under to shrink the piano roll.
Don’t forget to save, though.
Have fun

Martin, You hit the nail on the head! While I appreciate all of the other suggestions, I did not want to edit on a note by note basis nor change velocities which adds unneeded attacks, articulations and bends from my Motif Rack.
But, moving the song over to RB allows full editing of MIDI data including Program changes, CC data and envelopes on individual tracks. The best part is that it then allows you to save the song with the changed data back into an MGU format so BIAB can still open it later.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
