I recently listened to some very talented musicians playing a concert with Bach music and got inspired to make this piece. I hope you like it!

Will, beautifully presented. This really captures the classical style so well, and then takes a pleasant twist with the piano.

Tell us more about the instruments and styles you used.

Well, well, well, let's just see what we have, here, shall we, in this song of yours, Air 2019 - A JSB variation smile.

We have imagination...invention...passion...sensitivity...a understated sense of melancholy blended with moments of quiet joy...an obvious appreciation of classical musical form...and a piano section that takes a brief flight from the past into the present to deliver just a taste, a portent, of a modern pop, or even a jazz sensibility. I thought the piece was just about to make a hard turn around a corner and morph into something even more exciting, and cool, that would rock, even! But then, you return to the serenity of 'well-tempered' music-making and close the piece so quietly that it's like leaving a chapel after vespers.

If this represents what you are inspired to compose after listening "to some very talented musicians playing a concert with Bach music", I sure hope you keep your ears wide open and very busy, so us Users' Forum members can pick some more fruit off of the limbs of your eclectic musical tree!

Hi Will,

I am really enjoying listening to this creation. It travels really nicely.

It's very easy to hear the influence of Johann Sebastian and I greatly admire your creativity and sense of adventure.

Right now I can hear hints of "Air On G A String" and "Sheep May Safely Graze". Whoa! This is interesting... you've added a swing lilt! That was unexpected and got me sitting upright. Ahh... it's back to the Baroque styling now. The feeling of returning to the original style is very restful as the jazzier section.

This is a really lovely musical journey.

You pulled it off pretty well I think.
I do hear the bowed bass "dragging" rather than underpinning the piece though.
That could be becasue there's not a lot in the middle ground so it gets a lot of sonic space. A cello, oboe or similar would cover that territory - ah - here comes a cello and does just that.

Hi Will,

I can understand you got inspired when listening to 'Air'. It's a very beautiful song.
And you challenged yourself enormously with making your own impression of it. That in itself is worth a big compliment. A Dutch band in the late 70's called Focus did the same with the same song. It must be on internet I believe. One of them became very famous...
But in your performance, I have to agree with Loren, it appears your focus has been a bit too broad. Halfway your song I began to feel a bit unresty, although your playing is very nice. I couldn't do it, or dare to. that's why I only make my own songs grin

I hope you won't see this as a criticism, because that was not my point I wanted to make. I hope we can learn from each other all the time.

I decided to keep my answer to your kind comments in the same post, because you both circle around the fact that there is a sort of sonic or style/stylish "resolve" in the last part of the song, which is exactly what I intended. Thanks for listening!
I grew up with the music from Focus and Jan Akkerman. I really liked it in the 70s. I still remember "Sylvia" and "Hokus Pokus", but I cannot recall a version of Air. I will have to look for that on youtube.

Anyway... I just made this tune inspired by a recent concert and wanted to share it with you guys... I have no intention of publishing it to a broader audience... I know my limitations. smile

Will, Will, Will - if anyone should be called Master of BIAB you're on top of my list.

I've loved air for all my life so much - it's so beautiful that it may work in many arrangements. But this one really stands out. Congratulations on this very, very fine and beautifully sounding production. It's just AWESOME !!!!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 DAW Plugin Version 6: New Features Specifically for Reaper®

New with the DAW Plugin Version 6.0, released with Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows: the Reaper® Panel!

This new panel offers built-in specific support for the Reaper® DAW API allowing direct transfer of Band-in-a-Box® files to/from Reaper® tracks!

When you run the Plugin from Reaper®, there is a panel to set the following options:
-BB Track(s) to send: This allows you to select the Plugin tracks that will be sent Reaper.
-Destination Reaper Track: This lets you select the destination Reaper track to receive media content from the Plugin.
-At Bar: You can select a bar in Reaper where the Plugin tracks should be placed.
-Start Below Selected Track: This allows you to place the Plugin tracks below the destination Reaper track.
-Overwrite Reaper Track: You can overwrite previous content on the destination Reaper track.
-Move to Project Folder: With this option, you can move the Plugin tracks to the Reaper project folder.
-Send Reaper Instructions Enable this option to send the Reaper Instructions instead of rendering audio tracks, which is faster.
-Render Audio & Instructions: Enable this option to generate audio files and the Reaper instructions.
-Send Tracks After Generating: This allows the Plugin to automatically send tracks to Reaper after generating.
-Send Audio for MIDI Track: Enable this option to send rendered audio for MIDI tracks.
-Send RealCharts with Audio: If this option is enabled, Enable this option to send RealCharts with audio.
