Hi, something I have never had the need for just occurred. I have a song with 2 bars of lead in melody but BIAB only shows 1 bar of lead in melody even though the count in BIAB provides is 2 bars. How might I show two bars so I can enter that melody?

Thanks,
John

I you set the chorus to start at Bar 3 instead of 1 does that achieve what you want?

John:

If you open the Piano Roll window, you'll see 2 bars BEFORE bar one.
They are indicated as Bar -1 and Bar 0 (zero).
You could try entering your melody there.

Good luck!

Hi VideoTrack, I think it is too late to try that now.

Thanks Lloyd,

I opened the piano roll and I see the bars you mentioned. I played around a bit to try and figure out how to enter notes but had no success. It has been a long day. I will give it a shot tomorrow after some sleep :-)

John:

In the BIAB Help file, under the Index tab is an entry called Piano Roll Tutorial that will be helpful.
In a nutshell, when you open the Piano Roll, you hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys at the same time,
then click anywhere (or where you want) on the Piano Roll grid to enter a note.

Good luck!

Thank you Lloyd, I will probably give it another run later today. The email will remind me. I will let you know how I did. For now I need to fix a computer program bug I just found in my website :-( John

I got it to work Lloyd. This is so cool. Thanks again.

It is too bad the first bar of the two bar count in won't show up on the lead sheet print. I am going to try a variant on VideoTrack's idea. It just occurred to me maybe I could insert 2 bars and everything should just shove forward including the chorus bars. If not I could just adjust them.

With the two bar insert your approach worked too VideoTrack. Everything shifted. However this time the leadsheet shows the notes.

You guys are great. Thanks so much. BIAB is great. Some of the guys in my jam club who don't have BIAB know it is very powerful but they use cheaper less featured backing track software. I tell them I would never use any other software for the jam club. I wish I could get them all using BIAB. This gives me more info I can use to maybe convince them.

Glad you got it to work for you.
VideoTrack is an invaluable source of info! (Is that the same as "valuable"??!?).

Google and YouTube know everything :-)

Valuable vs. Invaluable. We think of valuable as meaning "having a great deal of value," as in "valuable jewelry" or "learned a valuable lesson." Invaluable, on the other hand, means "valuable beyond estimation.

Glad you got it working John. I hadn't realized that the song had already been established. Yes, shift everything down by 2 bars was the right direction to take.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
